What's new

Turkey has reportedly struck a massive oil and gas agreement with Kurdistan

As for the KRG part.

KRG relies, lives and pays their peshmerga from the Iraqi GDP share 17-23% from Baghdad.
Iraq has already cut this down recently for their behaviour, if Baghdad decides to cut it all down they are finished .

Clearly shows the same reaction of Barzani : "Massoud Barzani says any move to cut funding to the region in a dispute over oil sales would be a "declaration of war"
Kurd leader warns against budget cuts by Iraq - Middle East - Al Jazeera English

But Iraq has a stronger military, so there is little he can do.
BS,if they rely on the Iraqi government how can they close a deal against the will of the government.
Isnt your comment contreversial?
They are on the brink of war(shia government and the kurds)and you babling about relying on GDP.
State facts and not wishfull thinking.
And answer my question.

No, Iran has extremelly close ties to Iraqi-Kurdistan:

Niqash - politics - overly friendly neighbours: iran?s influence in iraqi kurdistan

Only Barzani and his KDP are close to Turkey, but Talabani and his PUK are allies of Iran.

Iran will always have a extremly close alliance with Iraqi-Kurdistan!!!

And of course also with the Shias!!!

The ties are so close with Iran that they are making deals with Turkey huh?
Its allways the same, dont drink to much redbull.

The Iraqi governemnt can't stop any deals with the KRG, but the KRG depends on the federal governemnt for its budget. Any deals by the KRG will result in decreasing the allocated budget for the KRG, this year the governemnt approved the budget after a $4 billion cut for the KRG.
UPDATE 2-Iraq parliament passes budget despite Kurdish boycott | Reuters
Iraq needs to do nothing more than cut off the funding if the kurds decide to do anything. The Iraqi government already informed the KRG that any oil sale without Baghdads approval will be considered smuggling, which would in turn result in further budget cuts.
Iraq has some ace cards as well.

The oil and gas fields in the north, arent they enough for the KRG?
Why would they want independence if thats not the case?
Its all about money,so they must rely on the fact that they have enough oil and gas to sell.

.
BTW, this deal is a desperate attempt for the Kurds to use these deals as a collateral against Iraq. They are kissing Turkish a** in order to get some sort of protection from Iraq.

Anyways it's a great win for Turkey. The Oil they are getting is discounted by about 50%. Just shows how fearful and desperate the Kurds are from Iraq, they give 50% of their oil for protection :lol
Anyways I can't wait till the day Kurdistan gets its independence from Iraq, without any "disputed"(Iraqi) territory. If they declare independence in the future and claim Iraqi land, It will lead to war.

No, the Kurds have given about 50% of the oil as part of a production sharing deal for the companies, they did that to get the international oil companies to bypass the Iraqi governments threats. They also want to use it as a collateral against Iraq. They hope that these companies will lobby their government to stand by Kurdistan just In case of any military threat.

The budget they get from the federal government is more than double than the value of the oil they produce. They are planning for the long term. They wish declare independce once they increase their oil production to 1 million BPD, but by that time Iraqs production will also rise to over 5 million BPD.

I'm in favor in separating Kurdistan since they are nothing but a cash drainage. They dislike Iraq and conspire against it. They have their own army and their own separate government. An independant Kurdistan means Iraqis will have more money to keep to themselves. the Iraqi army does not even operate in the Kurdish region. They are only Iraqis on payday. However both Sunnis and Shias will fight if they decide to take Iraqi land and include it in their future state

As for a "Sunni region", that doesn't exist only in the minds of some people here. The Iraqi government is in full controll of the Sunni areas, they have military bases and full authority in the sunni areas. I don't support dividing into a Sunni-Shia state. Their are many mixed areas In both regions. The only "pure" Sunni province is Anbar, all the other Sunni provinces have large Shia minorities, up to 30-40% in Diyala's case, . Also mixed "shia" provinces which have large sunni minorites such as baghdad (30-40%) and Babil which has about 30%. 30% minorities Of different ethnecities In Nineveh, There will also be a problem with that since the majority of oil resources are in Shia areas, and Iraq's only sea port is in the Shia south. This Will cause extreme economical hardships for the "Sunni Iraq". There are also many Iraqis who have family or business in different provinces. The whole Idea of a"Sunni Iraqi" state sounds crazy even to Iraq Sunnis.

Are you in favor of the devide in to 3 countries?

No one in Iraq wants that, except for Kurds but many of them dislike Iraq.
Though they think the same of Turkey..

IMO these "tensions" between Iraq and Turkey are nowhere political, just cheap gas & oil for Turkey which they are making use of.

In the future when the Grand faw port is finished, cargo will be transported to Europe through Turkey, this will be a big economic win for both Iraq and Turkey.

**** division.

I heard Erbil is in Kurdish territory and Musul is in Central Government's territory. While traveling to Erbil from Musul. There are 6 military check points, 3 of them controled by Arabs other 3 by Kurds. In these Kurd checkpoints, If you are Kurd you can go to Erbil. If you are Turk you can go to Erbil. But ıf you are an Arab, you are not allowed to go to Erbil. Is this true?

I have heard that as an Arab you have less chance of entering or you can only enter when your with family so it does not seem like a threat or something, but some of it is true.
Though I know people who come from Baghdad to enter Erbil and go to the airport so no idea what that is.

So? I never said, that Iraqi-Kurdistan (IK) has no ties with Turkey! I said, IK is not part of the Turkish camp! It is also not part of the Iranian camp, IK remains neutral!
Barzani is allied with Turkey and Talabani is allied with Iran.

What do you make of this statement?
Where does it say they are neutral?

KRG should support sunni arabs against the shia theocracy of najaf, el anabar, mosul, ninewah, salah el din constitute 30% of iraq, and are enough to build a new state separated from the racist shia theocracy who will have the time to worship ali all they can

Did you forget diyala ?
Atleast look the provinces up..

KRG has little power, KRG lives on the budget share from Baghdad which is between 17-23%.
If Baghdad cuts this then KRG will be in chaos.

we sunnis dont want to seperate from iraq.
