The Turkish government announced plans in the next few years to significantly increase the volume of exports of arms and military equipment. In 2014, the plan for military exports is 1.6 billion dollars, but the authorities will try to increase this figure to two billion dollars. To step up foreign deliveries of military products is planned by strengthening marketing and expanding the list of services on the territory of Turkey. By 2023 Ankara intends to be one of the six largest military exporters in the world and the Turkish industrial complex promised by this time to increase exports to $ 25 billion.
Over the past few years, Turkey has been actively increasing the volume of military exports by participating in international projects of development and production of ready-made arms and equipment, and various components to them. So, if, according to official data, in 2008 the Turkish foreign supplies of military products amounted to about 600 million dollars, in 2011 this figure increased to 887 million and in 2013 reached $ 1.4 billion. According to the Secretariat of defense industry of Turkey, in January-may 2014 military exports already amounted to $ 600 million; 90 million more than the same period last year.
Stockholm Institute for peace studies (SIPRI) on military exports Ankara leads a more modest data. So, in 2009, Turkey has exported military products at $ 37 million, in 2010 — 43 million, in 2011 — 33 million in 2012 to 101 million in 2013 to 82 million dollars. These calculations are given in 1990 prices. In terms of 2013 military figures of Turkey's exports, given SIPRI, 65.9, 76,6, 58,8, 180 and is 146.1 million, respectively. Note that the Stockholm Institute for its calculation uses only public data on value actually delivered military products or services.
Currently, foreign deliveries of arms and military equipment represent a third of total exports of Turkey. Traditionally the biggest buyer of Turkish military products is the United States. For example, in January-may 2014 Washington acquired from Ankara's weapons and services for a total amount of 230 million dollars. For comparison, during the same period of 2013 the exports to the US amounted to 194 million dollars. Second place in terms of exports are the United Arab Emirates, the third — Italy, the fourth is Spain, and the fifth — Saudi Arabia. In total Turkey supplies its military products and services in 130 countries around the world.

Ankara maintains an active military-technical cooperation with several countries in Central and South-East Asia, the European Union and the Persian Gulf. In the ranking of SIPRI's largest military exporters in 2013 Turkey got 20th place between Finland (94 million us $ in 1990 prices) and South Africa (us $ 76 million). The greatest demand on the world market used spare parts and engines for planes and helicopters, armored vehicles, speed boats, missiles and launchers for them, small-caliber small arms, various electronic systems, simulators and software. Major part of the system manufactured under license from foreign companies.
For example, the Turkish company Turkish Aerospace Industries provides services on repair and modernization of fighters of American production. In particular, in Turkey upgrade Pakistan's F-16 Fighting Falcon under license from the American company Lockheed Martin. Such cooperation is beneficial for all sides: the Americans get a percentage of the license, Turkey — the income for the work done, while Pakistan gets rid of the need for costly transportation of combat aircraft in the US. In addition, Turkish companies supply around 2.3 Pakistan thousands of kinds of spare parts and consumables to aviation equipment.
Currently in Turkey in the interests of national armed forces and for export are produced reconnaissance unmanned aircraft Bayraktar, self-propelled howitzers T-155 Firtina and Panter caliber 155 mm cannon, armored vehicles ACV-300, Pars and Kirpi, reactive multiple rocket launchers T-122 Sakarya, patrol boats of type "goal", Mehmetcik assault rifle and various ammunition types. The part of this military equipment is in service with Indonesia, Malaysia, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Tunisia, Philippines, Pakistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Nigeria, Macedonia, Slovenia and many other countries.

Ankara is also a third level partner in the program development of the perspective American fighter F-35 Lightning II. This level of partnership means that the Turkish company TAI mainly involved in the production of some components for combat aircraft. In the future Turkey plans to export attack helicopters T129 (their marketing is conducted today, however, the development of cars has not yet been completed), impact and intelligence version of the UAV ANKA, Altay main battle tanks and training aircraft Hurkus.
According to the Minister of defence of Turkey Ismet Yilmaz, the plan for the Turkish exports of military products and related services for 2014 amounts $ 1.6 billion, but the authorities intend to increase this figure to two billion dollars. "Our defence industry in the near future will sign a series of contracts with the countries of South America and Africa," said yılmaz in its report to Parliament. The increase of foreign supplies of arms and military equipment will allow Turkey to increase its share of the global arms market, the volume of which in 2013 amounted to USD 1.747 trillion USD, down 1.9 percent compared with 2012.
To increase military exports, it is planned not only by increasing we offer for sale a range of weapons and services, but also through more active marketing. Currently the Secretariat of the defense industry of Turkey, responsible including for export, has offices in Washington, DC, in the USA, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, Brussels in Belgium and Astana in Kazakhstan. In the near future it is planned to open representative offices of the organization in several countries of South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, Turkish defense industry has decided to exceed the government's plans. Thus, in 2013, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of producers and exporters of defence and aerospace products Latif Aral Alish announced that the companies will bring the war Turkey's exports to $ 25 billion by 2023. According to him, the industry is able to provide such an indicator, since it is actively developed and provides annual growth in export volumes. However, the enterprises will be able largely to relieve the country from having a military imports; already today, 54 percent of the needs of the military are met by local production.
The government expect to bring Turkey into the six of the largest military exporters in the world all to the same 2023. According to SIPRI, in 2013 the first place in exports was taken by Russia with 8.3 billion dollars, second to the US from 6.2 billion, the third — China with 1.8 billion, the fourth — France with $ 1.5 billion, the fifth — great Britain with 1.4 billion, and the sixth to Germany from 0.97 billion. In Turkey itself to the five largest exporters considered USA, Russia, Germany, France and the UK. These countries are scheduled to compete in the world market of arms and military equipment.
The binding of the plans of the government and the military-industrial complex of Turkey by 2023 is quite obvious — this year on October 29, will be celebrated the centenary of the Foundation of Turkish Republic. And it is for this reason that Ankara is ready to set myself such ambitious targets, as multiple increasing of the volume of military supplies abroad. Turkey seems to be able to significantly increase military exports, but to reach a lath in $ 25 billion unlikely to succeed (unless he was referring to the aggregate figure for ten years, but in this case there is no guarantee of realization of plans in life).
Given the rate of growth in average by 40 percent over five years (based on the official data on the growth of exports from 2003 to 2007 and from 2008 to 2012), by 2023, Turkey will put on the export of military products in the amount of 3.2- $ 3.5 billion. And it's not like the $ 25 billion claimed by the exporters Association.
