Turkey has expelled the Israeli ambassador over Israel's refusal to apologise for last-year's deadly raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla.

Officials in Ankara said it was also suspending all remaining military agreements with Israel.

The announcement came as a UN report on the raid, in which nine activists were killed, was due to be published.

Turkey has insisted that Israel apologise for the raid but it has consistently refused to do so.

The BBC's Jonathan Head, in Istanbul, says relations between Turkey and Israel have been frozen since last year's flotilla incident, but now they are being downgraded to the lowest possible level.

A leaked copy of the United Nations report into the Israeli military raid on the Turkish-led flotilla trying to break its blockade of Gaza says the Israelis did use excessive force.

But the leaked report concludes that Israel's naval blockade of Gaza is legal.

A good positive move on behalf of the Turks, the israelies are quickly losing all the support that they had in the region, the Egyptians are already p!ssed. Now the Turks are gone.

This is just eye wash. Turks could do a lot more but they are treading a fine line. Its difficult to be in nato and not to be pro israeli

Haha, I already made my prediction in another thread.

No way the Israelis are going to apologize. Strong ego. I wonder what's coming next? I can't imagine Israel breaking ties with the most secular of Muslim nations, they wouldn't have any allies in the Muslim world after this.

. . . .
You wouldnt have said it if you did understand the region and the way it functions.

Not exactly. but lets say hypotheticaly that i don't understand, but what about Israel? they are from that very region! even they don't understand?
had it been their concern then they would have apologised long back. it shows that Israel don't give a damn to all these small things.

Israel doesn't give a damn about a lot of things. Including humans in the Palestinian side :)

What else could they do? they are insignificant to Israeli economy

A bold move by the Turkish Govt., I hope this would remain such for a longer term unless Israel does a compromise and agrees to the demanded apology.

On a side note, while I was watching news (News One, Aaj News, and Geo News), the first 2 were showing this development but Geo was more into the rainy days, how are children celebrating Eid on its third day, and how much business the movie Bodyguard did in the market.

You know most Turkish members feel hurt by this news. Very deeply sad by Turkish they valued relationship with Israel, West and NATO in order to keep away from Muslims countries.

The restrain relationship btw Israel and tureky are in temporary. I believe next fews years later, they will be back in normal again. ;)
