The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka is in touch with the Embassy of Bangladesh in Ankara though it is “less likely” that any Bangladesh citizen will be affected due to the earthquake considering its location, said a spokesperson on Monday.

“We are in touch with our mission,” MoFA spokesperson Seheli Sabrin told UNB.
A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked southeastern Turkey and northern Syria early Monday, toppling hundreds of buildings and killing more than 1,300 people.

Hundreds were still believed to be trapped under rubble, and the toll was expected to rise as rescue workers searched mounds of wreckage in cities and towns across the area, reports AP.

On both sides of the border, residents jolted out of sleep by the pre-dawn quake rushed outside on a cold, rainy and snowy winter night, as buildings were flattened and strong aftershocks continued.

A ten-member team from Bangladesh is going to Turkey to take part in rescue work following the devastating earthquake there and the team includes five members each from the Bangladesh army and the fire service.

An official of the foreign ministry, preferring to remain anonymous, informed Prothom Alo of the matter Tuesday afternoon.

He said the party will leave for Turkey tomorrow, Wednesday, by a C-130 aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force.

It was decided to initially send a ten-member team. The matter of who will be on the team, what equipment and what medical supplies will be taken, is being decided upon.

This is devastating and a newborn Syrian baby girl was pulled alive after her mother died while giving birth.
Her father and all siblings are dead.

BD must provide substantial aid to both Turkey and especially war-torn Syria as it now has means.

Troops, firefighters, doctors, nurses, equipment, food, tents, clothing, medicine etc. Send it all immediately and without hesitation.

Ex-Turkish envoy to Bangladesh missing since earthquake​

The immediate-past Turkish ambassador to Bangladesh, who was posted in one of the affected provinces, remains missing soon after a deadly earthquake hit there, said current envoy Mustafa Osman Turan today.

"Unfortunately, we don't have any information about him," he said, seeking prayers for his quick rescue.

In a media briefing at the Turkish Embassy in Dhaka, he expressed gratitude to the government and the people of Bangladesh for coming forward after the earthquakes.

The next one or two days will be crucial to saving more lives, as his country is struggling to overcome the enormous challenges of being hit by twin earthquakes and many aftershocks, said Turan.

The Turkish ambassador said they are not interested to receive cash support but winter clothes and medicines and other materials are preferred from Bangladesh.

The Bangladeshi government sent a search and rescue team by a military aircraft last night and declared a day of national mourning with flags lowered at half-mast on all government premises for Thursday.

"This is a gesture we will not forget. There is an outpouring of support and solidarity by the people of Bangladesh on social media too," said the ambassador.

Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mustafa Osman Turan on Thursday sought help from Bangladesh as the country is struggling to overcome the enormous challenges being hit by twin earthquakes and many aftershocks.

He said they are not interested in receiving cash support but winter clothes and medicines and other materials are preferred from Bangladesh.

Yes, all these materials in good quantities plus tents, sleeping bags, and floor mats for spreading inside the tents are in need. It can certainly send Jhut clothes to the needy. It will save their skin from the biting cold.

BD is more in a position to help the victims with winter clothes. Turkey/ Sirya is a cold country and its people need to withstand cold.

I can understand what is severe cold. Now, in Japan, it is snow falling outside the window. The atmospheric temperature is +1 degree celsius now but it will fall below 0 degrees once the snow starts melting. The wind blows faster and the temp. falls down.

It must be severe in the open in Turkey and Syria. May Allah help them and, may the govt and people of BD help them earnestly.

A joint rescue team from Bangladesh has hit the ground running as part of the rescue effort in Turkey following Monday's earthquake, one of the deadliest tremors witnessed anywhere in the world over decades.

The Bangladesh team already rescued a 17-year-old girl alive and recovered 3 dead bodies, Fire Service and Civil Defence (media cell - headquarters) Deputy Assistant Director Shahjahan Sikder told UNB.

The team consisting of 34 members from the army and 12 from the Fire Service left Dhaka on Wednesday at 10pm and reached Adana Military Air Base on Thursday at 9:46pm.

Later, they reached Adiaman city and started search and rescue operations, added the officer.

According to the AP, rescuers pulled several people alive from the shattered remnants of buildings on Friday, some who survived more than 100 hours trapped under crushed concrete in the bitter cold after a catastrophic earthquake slammed Turkey and Syria, killing more than 22,000.

The survivors included six relatives who huddled in a small pocket under the rubble, a teenager who drank his own urine to slake his thirst, and a four-year-old boy who offered a jelly bean to calm him down as he was shimmied out.

Indians dont understand why Turkiye asked BD for help. Its very simple we are brother countries in faith so there is no ego involved. We will assist as needed. Secondly BD produces the items such as tents and clothes that are are needed now. Lastly Turkiye stood and stands with us in the rohingya and other other geopolical issues.

We are muslim democracies traversing the same political and economic path and face the same challenges.

I hope this terrible disaster brings us even closer in every field imaginable.
