Turkey approaches Arab world with clear motives, unlike Iran

Saudi Prince Abdulaziz Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has hailed the role of Turkey as a partner to Saudi Arabia and a contributor to Middle Eastern stability, a role he said is very new, but nevertheless much and urgently needed.

“Turkey was not around until five or 10 years ago. ”¦ It just appeared out of nowhere, I think because it sees it should interfere when there is a problem,” Prince Abdulaziz told Today’s Zaman in an interview last week while he was visiting Turkey as the guest of an Ankara-based think tank, the Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies (ORSAM).

Explaining that he was in Turkey to strengthen the ties and boost the cultural connection between Saudi Arabia and Turkey, the prince welcomed Turkey’s return to the region.

However, he noted that Turkey will have to build its existence one more time in the Middle East before Arab nations will be able to beat their prejudice and “understand the role of the country.” “Some countries interfere whenever they want to, rather worse, impose decisions for their benefit,” said Prince Abdulaziz, relaying the Saudi foreign minister’s words in connection with Turkey’s fresh introduction back into the region as a contributor with no ulterior motives. “With Turkey, the best thing is they are clear what their motives are.” Viewing Turkey’s position for stability in the region in a positive light, the prince stressed frequently that Turkey is a very welcome, needed actor in the region and “it is in our mutual interest that Turkey interferes and tries to solve problems in the Arab world.”

On top of conflict among the nations of the region, the whole of the Middle East as well as the North African region has been affected throughout the year by a revolutionary movement called the Arab Spring, or “an Islamic autumn,” as Prince Abdulaziz dubbed it, as the movement sparked a wave of a feuds between regimes and their people, resulting in thousands of lives lost and even more thrown into prison.

This is very nice indeed.

Turks and Arabs are brothers so we must be close each-other. Everyone can see it easily, Turkiye doesn't try to impose its own regime unlike Iran.

Best wishes for Turkiye and Arab states...

Turkey's expectations from its near and far neighbours are very clear. Turkey expects a stable region that it can have strong trade ties because Turkey is one of the few countries in the region which can benefit from stablility unlike Iran, Syria and Israel.

Turkey was forced to see the European experience that brought them peace, stability and wealth from the outside. And now, because Turkish public and our governors start to believe we will never be a part of EU due to certain countries' stubborn objections, we want to be a part of new union. Turkey is constantly looking for a partner country in the region just like in the example of Germany-France in EU. First, we tried to do that with Iran. However, we couldn't achive that because of Iran's unclear intentions about the region. Then, we hoped this country to be Egypt. However, Egypt's Mubarek saw Turkey as a rival instead of a partner. Although Turkey haven't lost its hopes about Egypt, it is not clear when Egypt will be a stable country again after "Arab Spring". Now, we expect this strategical partner to be Saudi Arabia, our another brother country. I hope we can both make this work by working very hard to deepen our not only economic but also cultural relations.

In my humble opinion, Turkey-Egypt-Pakistan-Saudi Arabia are natural allies because of their mutual history. I hope this axis could become reality in the future because it will make each of these four country a very powerful and wealthy country in the region.

That would be the dream alliance.
If these countries can get their act together and form trading blocks as well as political blocks they have have alot of sway not just in the Mid east but in the world.

Former Turkish diplomat Iskit: Tehran may be planning to divide Iraq

Interesting article but a bit long.

Iraq is already divided, on one side you have the kurds and sunnis and other side the shia's

Not to offend Saudi friend here, interests of Turkey lies in not meddling in Middle east issues. Turks are not aware of M.E. For nearly 1 century. I don't want to be a pawn in Sunni-Shia, Saudi-Iran conflict.

Economic and military technology can be part of cooperation. But the longer we stay out of this mess, the better.

Before I read the article, I would like to say I don't believe Iran might be planning to divide Iraq. Why would they be interested in one of the three parts instead of having the control of whole Iraq? Dividing Iraq to three part means losing physical contact with Syria for Iranians. And losing physical contact with Syria means losing Syria front eventually. Beliving that Iran might be planning to divide Iraq also means believing Iran's desires are limited to its near neighbours. I do NOT belive that. Iran wants a piece of Saudi Arabia and Yemen, a piece of Egypt, all of Bahreyn and other gulf countries. They are working ceaselessly to achive that goal now and they will be working ceaselessly to achive that goal in the future.
