To be honest I think it was mostly because of pressure by Russia and deals under the table. But then Erdogan probably got stubborn and refused to get rid of the S-400s and he said he would even buy Su-35s or Su-57s from Russia,so then he couldn't back down easily on his rhetoric of Turkey being a sovereign and powerful country that does what it wants and buys whatever it wants.

I am saying again , 3 BELHARRA Frigates can not change anything in the Eastern Mediterranean in a conflict

so you can not do propaganda over anti-Turkey sites like parstoday

He has a point though. Turkey is running so many shipbuilding programs at the moment that it doesn't really matter if Greece gets 3 frigates.
Turkey has played it wiser when it comes to the long-term scenario. Greece and Egypt can spend a few bucks and get the latest Western weapons but they can't maintain this technological superiority as in a decade Turkey's indigenous programs will begin yielding results. By developing an arms industry, Turkey can improve its relations with other countries through the sale of arms, providing further diplomatic benefit in the long term.

I don't have any biases regarding Turkey or Greece, and despise Erdogan but this is just the plain and simple truth.

We're not getting just three frigates,we're probably also getting 4 Gowind corvettes and the Navy knows we need to replace more ships. So I guess there will be more ships to be bought in the future.The deal was for 3+1 FDI and 3+1 Gowind,but the Gowind are still under negotiation. We've been left behind when it comes to the Navy and it is vital for us,if we want to protect our islands.

The question though is,how good all this "purely indigenous" Turkish weapons are and how long could they keep making them if their economy is destroyed by external and internal factors and they are under total embargo by big a coalition of countries. They are not Iran,the Iranians survived partly because they have some of the largest oil reserves in the world.

Of course you are right about their shipbuilding plans. Like I've said in other threads,they had been making ships and submarines like crazy for the last 10-12 years while we were having the economic crisis. And imagine that the Germans wouldn't even let us get 2 FREMM from the French! At first we wanted 6 FREMM in 2009,then we decided to buy 4 and then 2. But the crisis governments neglected the Armed Forces significantly and that's why we're trying to finally buy some new equipment.
