Despite numerous sanctions and pressure on Iran by the U.S. and the EU, Turkey has always supported the country's position in its nuclear program, TRT Haber TV channel quotes Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying.

According to Erdogan, Turkey's relations with other countries do not depend on religious affiliation. Thus, Sunni Turkey has always supported the Shiite Iran, Erdogan said.

"Despite the West's persuasion to change our position on Iran, Turkey continues to support Tehran's nuclear program," Erdogan said.

The U.S. and other Western countries accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons under cover of peaceful nuclear energy program. Tehran denies the charges, saying its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful.

Great going Mr.erdogan. Iran is perfectly with in its right to develop nuclear war heads and so are KSA, Egypt & turkey. All these four countries should find ways to developing nuclear weapons capability either covertly or overtly.

‘No place’ for nukes in Iranian-Turkish relations

9 December 2011

There is “no place” for nuclear weapons in Turkish-Iranian relations, Turkey’s ambassador to Washington said during a speech Thursday.

Addressing a crowd of students at George Washington University, Ambassador Namık Tan stated Turkey opposes any plans by its eastern neighbor to acquire nuclear weapons. “We want a good, neighborly relationship with Iran. That is all we want,” he said. “There is no place for nuclear weapons. Turkey cannot tolerate Iran with nuclear weapons.”

Tan’s words come amid growing international pressure for Turkey to impose sanctions on Tehran for its nuclear program. Last month, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officials expressed their “increasing concern” about Iran’s nuclear program, renewing calls from the West for a new round of sanctions against a defiant Iran. This week, American Vice President Joe Biden called on Turkey to join the growing effort to condemn Iran’s nuclear program, telling the Turkish press on Wednesday that “we encourage our partners, including Turkey, to take steps to impose new sanctions on Iran.”

Ambassador Tan stopped short of announcing Turkish plans to apply sanctions on Iran during his speech, insisting that diplomatic measures are “the only viable road for a permanent solution” in the developing crisis.

Tan nonetheless stated that Turkey has helped intercept the shipment of “certain goods” from “some other countries,” but refused to identify specifics. Tan added that Turkey will cooperate with any decision by the UN to impose sanctions.

Turkey has taken a hostile yet cautious stance regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions, agreeing in 2010 to host a NATO early warning radar system ostensibly designed to help shield Europe from the threat of Iranian missiles, although during negotiations, Turkey demanded that any specific mention of Iran be removed from the text of the agreement.

Tan said on Thursday that Turkey wants a “weapons-of-mass-destruction-free zone,” adding that Ankara will do whatever possible to prevent regional politics from being dictated by Iranian nukes.

The ambassador also spoke about other regional issues, including events in Syria. “Turkey will stand by Syrian people during this difficult period. We believe that we share a common future with Syrian people,” he said, emphasizing the need for close cooperation between the Arab League and Turkey on the Syrian issue.

Tan also communicated Turkey’s concern about the presence of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, stating that the country expects more from the US in eradicating the terrorist organization.

Who talked about nuclear weapons?
If Turkey had even slightest doubt that Iran is making nuclear weapons,it wouldn't risk to support it on this issue.
It's only the west and its puppets who say Iran is making nuclear weapons, and good for them, they are sucking Arab's blood and money for a non existent threat and weapon. You will understand what you have lost in this game when the nuclear standoff is finished.

.
And what if iran do build nuclear weapons?
would you rise and say stop making nuclear bombs?
will you?

. .
Iranian should not trust the words of the Turks. They will back stab you so hard, look at syria-Turkish relation..

yea its time for a little history lessons
turkey and Syria are always like this
so no big surprise there
