WASHINGTON - The Associated Press

A senior U.S. official said Turkey has agreed to stay out of international efforts to pressure Iran on its nuclear program, The Associated Press reported on Tuesday.

The official told reporters that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had asked Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in a 45-minute conversation Monday to leave the issue to U.N. Security Council powers and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a private conversation, said Davutoğlu agreed.

U.S.-Turkish relations have suffered since Turkey voted against U.S.-backed sanctions that ultimately passed in the U.N. Security Council last month.

The vote came shortly after Turkey tried to broker a nuclear fuel-swap deal with Iran as an alternative to sanctions.

The Turkish Embassy had no immediate comment on the Clinton-Davutoğlu talks.

Looks like Iran is on their own.

Smart move though.

So if Erdogan loses, then what? Jigs, can you name one Turkish leader who will do a better job? They are all pricks and all they do is criticizing the administration in power. They offer no solutions whatsoever.

Turkey follows Kemalist views not Islamic ones. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is who we need. Tell me is voting against the U.S. a smart move ? You want me to be realistic and blunt. Turkey needs the U.S. on so many levels it isn't even funny. They lobby for us, they sell us arms, they support our EU membership...the list goes on. Where does supporting Iran get us or Syria ? Hell Syria just announced they don't want Turkey to moderate anymore so much for that friendship. Now we have the U.S. questioning our stance. Do you also know how many people Erdogan has had arrested. People in the Media and newspaper writers fired from their jobs because they write anti AKP articles. You also have him accusing the media of supporting terrorism because they show people crying on T.V. over PKK attacks. The guy wants the media censored and controlled and he also believes that Muslim's can not commit genocide. Those were his exact words. He is destroying the secular state of Turkey each day and at the same time trying to pass legislation that makes it harder to remove certain aspects of his party from governing positions.

Voting against US must not be a false Move by Turkey, but before Turkey is acting like a Superpower it must strengthen it's Economics, built up Arms Industry and Armed Forces and Bolster the Relation with it's eurasian and Central Asian Brother States. Becoming a Superpower is a long Process, it can not happen from Today until Tommorow.

In the Case of Iran, this Country is Important for Trade and Energy Supply for Turkey. Iran on the other Side have different hegemonic Ambitions and until Today Iran never Supprotet Turkey Stance on Karabagh and northern Cyprus.

From that Point I see no urgent need to Support Iran !

The Point which concern me most on Erdogans Middle East Policy is the Tread that Turkey can become kicke'd out of NATO, when his Islamist Policy go out of Control ! Than Turkey can not defend it's Rights on Cyprus or Aegean anymore or Turkey Risk a war with the West, which would clearly end in Military Defeat and the Loss of Terretories.

Jewish Lobbyist Groups urged Barack Obama to kick Turkey out of NATO !

I see, I just dont want Iran to turn a terror den like Iraq, America have to clean her mess in Iraq first then maybe they can consider an attack on Iran...

So we have to protect Iran...

That would be good for Turkey if these idiots are not in power for too long.

Recep Erdoğan and AKP are still very popular in Turkey. You still yearn for the days when armed forces ruled directly or indirectly. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and CHP will remain in opposition even after next elections. Recep Erdoğan and AKP has given new direction and have increased the importance of Turkey. The Zionist lobby and Neo-Nazi supporters in Europe and America oppose Turkey and have been exposed after Gaza flotilla attack by Zionist Nazis.

. .
I hope so too - Why should Turkey harm it's economic interests for Iranians when Iran has no benefit whatsoever to Turkey?

but they should do it for the right reasons, not because they are scared of the us right?

The right reasons were given up above by jigs. Turkey stands to lose a lot if it continues down the path of making the west choose between itself and Israel. It is true that Turkey should maintain its ties with Iran and other neighbors to its east, but that doesn't mean Turkey can continue down the path it did last month. Voting against Iran sanctions with Brazil was a major blunder and there are calls of re-evaluating its NATO membership now.

Ofcourse, Turkey won't be out of NATO over this, but continuing down this path would harm Turkey's relations with the west, which would mean economic and military isolation, which Turkey cannot afford.

We need to distance ourselves from Iran first. We don't have to cut ties but it is good that we agreed to stay out of their nuclear issue. I know we have large trade with Iran but this was a false move. You don't want to set up large energy/trade deals with risky countries such as Iran. Turkey should be investing even more into nuclear energy and lower our dependence on foreign supplies.

As far as the Zionist lobby at work they do want Turkey out. Their efforts are already paying off with Wolf Blitzer.
