Turbulence ahead with Indian jet deal

^ IAF had a choice of six fighters. They had some 643 parameters on which they tested these birds. They did NOT like four of them. Three out of these four were the cheapest ones, viz., Mig 35, F-16 and Gripen. These three were booted out of the contest.

IAF found that two platforms meet their criterion. These two aircrafts that were downselected viz., EF and Rafale were the costliest out of the six. Now, which one chose out of the two was decided by who quoted how much and how much ToT were they willing to do. (Yes, IAF's personal choice and capability of the platform may have had some effect on the deciscion making of the MoD)

Conclusion - Your argument is totally bizzare given that these were the two costliest weapon platforms out of the six offered to the IAF.

I posted this on the MRCA thread it's a good article here is a paragraph from it:

Even the losers of the bid acknowledge that the evaluation has been thoroughly professional, fair and free of the much-suspected geopolitical/strategic considerations. It’s to the credit of the government that it allowed the evaluation to be done completely on the basis of operational and technical parameters.

The final commercial negotiations for the deal are set to begin, but there are already attempts by competitors to question the wisdom of choosing French. It’s important for the government to close the deal early to put a stop to all speculation, allegations and conspiracy theories.

The British Prime Minister said on Wednesday that he would ask his Indian counterpart to reconsider the decision to choose Dassault Aviation over EADS Euro fighter.

“Of course I will do everything I can, as I have already, to encourage the Indians to look at Typhoon (Euro fighter) because I think it is such a good aircraft,” Cameron told parliament.

“The decision is obviously disappointing but it is about who the Indians have assessed as making the lowest bid and therefore asked to enter into further negotiations. They have not yet awarded the contract,”
he added

This were the words of the British PM, so buddy how badly u wish to win? :) what will u give to make us change our minds and more importantly what will France give so we don't change our mind that's what happens when the ball is in our court and they are despo

I wonder why is cost a factor.. why its not the performance? There is a in-built flaw in the approach which India has followed and I would certainly not want Pakistan to follow such path.

We had 6 aircraft to choose from and 4 of the cheapest aircraft didn't even make the final cut. Now tell me, are we really buying the cheapest aircraft or the most capable one? EFT may be costlier but it sure don't offer everything we need out of the box. In fact nothing we need out of the box. Remember we are not looking for an air dominance fighter.

Thanks Freind ,
Its probabally the best thread ever on MMRCA on this forum Thanks Again , anyway personally i like Typhoon deu to its better radar & service cealing + better engines , but as a top airforce official (wont ever disclose his name&rank) told that airforce is going for Rafale & in the later stages it will have GE 414 engine + some isrealy stuff with a few american wepons ,though i personally found it hillarius but the guy seemed to be pretty confident.....ps dont want to derail this thread but will certainly like comments from senior guys , Thanks .

the Rafale will be a better air to air fighter when it is equipped with the Meteor missile.

Will it?? Does the rafale have the radar to fully use the capabilities of the longer ranged meteor?
This radar was the smallest of all the AESA's in the competition ( yes - smaller even than the grippen ) and it cannot be changed as its small because of the tiny nose cone of the rafale( which is even smaller than the Tejas's nose cone )which can fit only 840 T/R modules, I am expecting a pitiful range - the Rafale will need continous awacs support to engage in long range BVR combat.

Also it will be a long time before we get the meteor on the indian rafales - testing is currently going on the EFT and the grippen - not the rafale. Its said the first meteor for the french rafale will arrive in 2018 ( 3 years later than the EFT) and it will take another few years to get it on the Indian rafale - We wont see meteor on the Indian rafale till at least 2021.
