Can anyone here from Karachi preferably give a unbiased opinion about the situation in karachi with regards to the Taliban threat or any areas they control...

Speaking from on-ground experience, I have to say that this is pure BS. The TTP backbone has been crushed by the military operation in Wajiristan and the disorganized TTP is unable to carry out any coordinated attacks, fortunately. However, the threat is still very real and their everyday business of kidnappings, extortion and murders is an ongoing and unchallenged phenomenon.

Catch, Kill and walk away is the only answer in Karachi. Pakistani courts are a joke, no matter how good the police or rangers are most of these scum bags either walk or given light sentences.

Pakistani courts are indeed a joke and that is because of corruption which is rampant in LEAs as well. Also, the courts are usually left hanging because the LEAs have no forensic evidence for crimes, nor can they produce actual eyewitnesses to crimes.

For the courts to become effective, we need comprehensive forensic expertise, understanding and applicability of the law, an established witness protection program and a judiciary that is not exposed to the criminals (for example, the judges can sit in a different city, unknown to the criminal, and preside over the proceedings over a tele-video conference connection)

I reckon a few high profile cases being given the death penalty can really help shake-up the hardest of criminals. Its the sense of how easy it is to get away with crime that keeps them doing it so freely. Another thing that really needs to be addressed is the disgusting level of civil-disobedience within the public. Has anyone realized how easily people cross red-lights, drive on the wrong side of the road, offer bribes or disregard the system. No wonder we have such rampant crime, these sorts of things are unheard of here in Australia and that's probably why its such a well functioning country.

Then if we were to look at an Islamic perspective of this situation, A nations politicians are a direct reflection of its people, we need to change/ uplift / educate the people to get better administration, and certainly a major part of this comes through combating civil disobedience.

Do you know how many capital punishments were handed out in the last 5 years? And how many actual sentences were carried out? Zardari, too scared of the rope, had halted executions during his tenure and the process never got started by NS.

i think , there are still areas which needs to be clean , and checked ....
as far as operation Against MQM supporters, it will not help karachi problem but make it worse ...
proper proceedure to finish criminals is that they should arrest them , bring them to court with full proofs and also mention the Party association when they show them on media ...
i am in all favor of no weapon culture in all over Pakistan ... not just karachi ..

TTP probably has sleeper cells in Karachi that the security forces currently are unaware of. However, all things considered, I don't believe TTP are a major threat for Karachi ATM.

The bigger threat are the gangs and street criminals, involved in target killings, robberies, kidnappings, extortion, etc. IMO those are the biggest criminals in Karachi atm.
