PESHAWAR: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Mullah Fazlullah narrowly escaped a US drone strike near the Durand Line on Monday.

A senior security official from Fata, while talking to The Express Tribune, said it was confirmed that Fazlullah was present in the Nizyan area of the Ningarhar province of Afghanistan on the Durand Line.

He said the TTP leader escaped the drone strike. However, five others were killed in the strike reportedly near near the zero-line between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The official said they are trying to collect further details of the strike and prepare a report with the help of Afghan security officials.

Further, he said it could not be confirmed where Fazlullah had been moved after the strike took place.

Meanwhile government spokesman reported, 'this drone strike is a violation of Pakistan sovereignty...blah blah blah..."

His days are numbered. Motherfukr must be shaking in his sandals now. No doubt this US cooperation has to do with the recent trust building and Gen. Raheel's US visit.

ISI mustve given the coordinate and CIA carried out the strike. Looking forward to more such coordination.

he is still relevant so his death through such strike will be a major blow and can trigger power struggle among the terrorists resulting in their infighting and cannibalism of each other
it is great that 5 other terrorists were killed.

his number will come up soon.

From my limited understanding of this, Mullah Fazlullah is the reason for the division and subsequent weakening of the ttp. If he is killed and a new leader is elected in his place who then manages to unite all of the divided and breakaway factions of the ttp as it was under Baitullah and Hakimullah that might be a more dangerous scenario. Maybe keeping Fazalullah alive for now is not such a bad thing for Pak Fauj since he has caused more damage to ttp instead of strengthening it as his predecessors did.

@Irfan Baloch @Horus

So should Pakistan interpret the fact that Mullah Fazlullah "escaped just in time" as "evidence" that the US leaked information provided by Pakistan against a TTP target to the TTP?

After all, this is the same kind of flimsy argument used by commentators in the US against Pakistan, where they argue that Pakistan was provided evidence against key targets, and the targets left soon before the raids/attacks on their locations.
