Guys I wonder if anyone can help me. On my last trip outside the wire, I acquired several medals from the british indian campaigns, many are erased but there is one that I would like to try and give back to its owner or their children.

Medal: Pakistan Independence Medal 1947
Ribbon: yes but no broach
Awarded to: 1213884 GNR MOHD KHAN RPA.

If anyone can help me trace its owners I would be grateful.

Cheers,

Great idea sir! I am sure the recipient or his heirs will be extremely proud and thankful for your consideration.

Have you tried contacting someone from the military, like a PR guy? Maybe they have records of this person.

From what I can tell (it should pretty obvious) the name of the person is probably Mohammad Khan. GNR = Gunner, RPA = Reserve personnel...

So it should be, Gunner Mohammad Khan, Reserve Personnel; ID number = 1213884

He was a reservist.

Hope that helps.

I guess RPA in 1947 meant Royal Pakistan Army

I have checked with another historian and RPA = Royal Pakistan Artillery, anyways i have forwarded the medal to my cousin in PA who will try to check it for me. Lets see, will keep you guys posted.
