Truss says Falklands part of ‘British family’ after China backs Argentina

Do you Chinese not think it is funny when you are saying that Falklands belongs to the Argentines?

They are colonial settlers to the area just like the UK are as both sides are of European stock. If Argentina was mainly native Red Indian still then they may have some kind of legitimate claim to the islands.

UK has possession as they beat the Argentines twice in a fair fight over the course of 2 centuries. The people that inhabit the islands can now be thought of as native as they can trace their history back 200 years and 300 years ago there was not a single person living on those lands.

Don't let your anger over Hong Kong make the Chinese position look ridiculous here.
Ehh why so sensitive, we are a sovereign nation and have ye right to support whomever we want. We just want to visit our friends and do a freedom of navigation mate.lol

.
Most here talking about selling JF17 to Argentina to fight UK, can't do that in its current configuration with as its ejector seat is made by Martin Baker ironically a British company lol

The Chinese have their own variant of the ejection seat - and you will find that the Argentinans are talking about FC1 - Block III and not JF17 Block III where the distinction between the labels is that the FC1 is a pure chinese platform whereas JF17 designation is used to designate derivatives of Pakistans variant that contains some western components.

Look, is China going to support one colonial claim over another?
At least be consistent here and stay neutral.

Anyway unless China builds up a force of 3-4 carriers and then sends 3/4 of its fleet to the area and fights the UK itself, the Argentines are never getting the Falklands back.
You can give them the best toys for free but they can never beat the UK as they have no fighting tradition.

.
Yes give them ballistic missiles and cruise missiles why stop there go ahead and pull the trigger for them as well.
The only reason they didn't get their back side handed to them last time was because Maggie and the political leaders didn't want mainland Argentina targeted.

Give them the above and see Bueno Aires burn.

What you forget is the South American situation, anything you give to Argentina, Chile will likely feel threatened and want to have something to balance the situation. Argentinas only benefit is in using Falklands to divert public attention away from their mess of a country.
So you are saying that UK is going to attack Argentina simply because some country is selling them ballistic missiles and cruise missile? Wishful thinking.... We would see some protest from the UK and that would be it. Also Chile does not feel threatened by Argentina.

JF-17s would be eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner by the Typhoons permanently based in the Falklands.

Nuclear submarines for Argentina with no experience in this type of submarine and costing 1 billion dollars each?

Argentines are bankrupt and have no money as they are lazy and corrupt.

Are you even aware that all your SSNs are currently way inferior to the latest UK has?

This is all talk and no substance.
I doubt 4 typhoons would be able to do much. Also China could supply Argentina with ballistic missiles to flatten the bases where those Typhoons are located. Study modern warfare before making ridiculous claims.

We support whomever is our friend, just like any other country. Why should we be neutral because you ask us to? The Anglo had been having a field day bashing us, now let's say we were to support Irish and Scottish independence, that would be worse. This is just the appetiser mate.

Why are you so sensitive mate, did we say we are gonna invade Falklands? Just trying to sail a freedom of navigation fleet and help our Argentinians friends with Intel, missile guidance and technology.... Lol

Dude, I have probably forgotten more than you have learnt or will learn in your entire life.

UK can hit the Argentine mainland with 100s of Tomahawk cruise missiles fired from its SSNs and so I do not think that they(Argentina) will be so stupid to try to flatten the airbase in the Falklands where those Typhoons are located.

I suggest you research a litttle about the respective military capabilities of the two sides before embarrassing yourself further on this thread.

OK, but can you send one of your carrier groups right now to the Falklands area to annoy the UK?

Your two current carriers are simply incapable and even with the Type-003 carrier soon to come be launched and come into service, you lack both a decent SSN as Type-093G is not that good and the J-15s are simply no match for the F-35Bs on the QE Class carrier.

Let us talk in 10 years when China can credibly send a fleet to the region to be a real threat to the RN.

No one will care much if you send a 2nd rate fleet to the area.

We will send whatever we want whenever we want, why are you so panicky, sending a fleet does not mean we are invading Falklands, its just a 'freedom of navigation' exercise, we can only support our fellow Argentinian friends, we can't participate in any wars which is not ours, why are you so triggered? Lololol

No-one is triggered but you are wasting your time by sending a 2nd rate fleet to the area.

By all means show your support but can either of your 2 carriers make the very long journey to the area right now without breaking down or running out of fuel? lol

Ehh since when do I control the Chinese Navy. Lolol. What's wrong with navigating around the internationals water around Falkland? China will do what she needs to do.... I am amazed you are so triggered... Lolol

No my statement was made to counter the Chinese narrative that Argentinians once equipped with these missiles will feel free to use them. On the contrary unless they get ICBM they do not threaten UK. Yet UK does threaten mainland Argentina - as thing stand. A few ballistic missiles or cruise missiles does not change anything.

You need some South American history Chile and Argentina have come to war before and even now statements from both sides are made over the disputed territory.

Liz Truss has defended the Falklands as “part of the British family” after China backed Argentina’s claim over the South American islands.
The foreign secretary tweeted that “China must respect the Falklands’ sovereignty” after the Argentinian president, Alberto Fernández, met China’s President Xi on the fringes of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

According to a statement on the website of the Chinese embassy in the UK, the two leaders spoke of their “deep friendship” and Argentina signed up to China’s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative, a state-backed campaign for global influence.

But they also signed an agreement in which China reasserted its support for Argentina’s claim to the Falklands, while Fernández backed Xi’s one-China policy, which claims Taiwan as its own.
The statement said Argentina should be able to “fully exercise its sovereignty over the Malvinas (Falklands) Islands issue”.

But Truss said: “We completely reject any questions over sovereignty of the Falklands. The Falklands are part of the British family and we will defend their right to self-determination. China must respect the Falklands’ sovereignty.”

Chen Weihua, a journalist for China Daily, an English-language newspaper owned by the Chinese Communist party, replied: “But it’s OK for UK to challenge China’s sovereignty in the South China Sea by sending navy vessels? At least China has not sent its navy near the Malvinas, or what you call the Falklands.”

Xi has also met Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, in recent days. The two leaders pushed back against US pressure and declared their opposition to any expansion of Nato – a key issue in the current tensions on the Ukrainian border.

In a joint statement, they criticised “interference in the internal affairs” of other states and, in a thinly veiled reference to the west, said: “Some forces representing a minority on the world stage continue to advocate unilateral approaches to resolving international problems and resort to military policy.”

China has increasingly shown support for Moscow in its dispute with Ukraine, which is threatening to escalate into armed conflict.

The Conservative MP and chair of the Commons defence select committee, Tobias Ellwood, has warned of the coming together of China and Russia. After the leaders’ meeting, he tweeted: “Putin is not in China to discuss the bobsleigh, but to further align Russia away from the west to the east. This is the axis of power that will dominate our era.

“Any sanctions we impose will only assist Putin with his aim. This is the bigger picture we are missing.”

On Sunday, Ellwood added: “With China now onside, the Russian invasion into Ukraine is imminent. Our window for the west to prevent this is now closing fast.”
