On Saturday North Korea’s Foreign Ministry called just-completed talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo “regrettable.” They were, the ministry said, “very concerning” because they could lead to a “dangerous phase that might rattle our willingness for denuclearization that had been firm.”

The ministry also complained about America’s “gangster-like mindset.”

The statement embarrassed Pompeo, who just hours before issued a sunny assessment of the two-day discussions. There had been, he said, “progress on almost all of the central issues.”

NK will end badly in this type of 'negotiation' since NK is forced to accept all demands by the great bully! The only way out for NK, with its dignity intact, is to become a part of China. In the future, when the hegemonist US is no longer a threat to world peace, then China can return sovereignty to the N.koreans. This has never been tried before but NK may want to seriously consider it before it is humiliated and attack by the US. China can not just abandon its N.Korean brothers.

Trump and his team are overplaying their tough man persona. The north koreans seem sincere in trying to get a negotiated agreement. But pushing them too much just to show how tough you are to the world might backfire.
The south Koreans should ideally lead the talks as they understand asian sensitivities and personal equations won't come in the way of a agreement.

It was supposed to fail. The key is to buy as much time for North Korea as possible and mend the ties with China - after some reckless Korean actions in the past.

NK will have to manage the situation in limbo; I do not think they had the slightest trust to the US regime -- especially after they see how the US regime killed of a nuclear deal with Iran -- a deal they had signed less than two years ago.

NK may be poor. But not stupid.
