Trump to UK: 'Walk away' if EU does not give what you want
Sun Jun 2, 2019 04:05AM [Updated: Sun Jun 2, 2019 04:53AM ]

US President Donald Trump has advised the UK to “walk away” from Brexit talks if the European Union does not give London what it wants.

“They’ve got to get it done,” Trump said in an interview with the Sunday Times newspaper ahead of his state visit to Britain beginning on Monday. “They have got to get the deal closed.”

“If they don’t get what they want, I would walk away. If you don’t get a fair deal, you walk away.”

Trump also said the UK should not pay its 39-billion-pound EU divorce bill.

“If I were them, I wouldn’t pay 50 billion dollars. That is a tremendous number.”

Noting that Britain must depart the European Union this year, he again said he would support those to succeed Prime Minister Theresa May who have said the UK must leave the bloc on the due date of Oct. 31 with or without a deal.

The candidates Trump supports include former foreign secretary Boris Johnson, former Brexit minister Dominic Raab and interior minister Sajid Javid.

He also said the Conservatives should involve Farage, the Brexit Party leader, in talks with Brussels after his success in European Parliament elections last month.

“I like Nigel a lot. He has a lot to offer - he is a very smart person,” Trump said. “They won’t bring him in but think how well they would do if they did. They just haven’t figured that out yet.”

On Labour opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn, Trump said he would have “to know” him before allowing US intelligence to share its most sensitive secrets with a hard-left government.

He also touched upon Chinese firm Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, warning British ministers that they might jeopardize intelligence-sharing if they let Huawei into the UK’s new 5G mobile phone network.

Trump will arrive in Britain on Monday for a state visit at the invitation of Queen Elizabeth before attending World War Two commemorations in France and visiting Ireland.

More than 250,000 people are expected to take to the streets in the UK in to protest his visit, with police officers expected to be deployed to the streets in London during Trump's three-day stay.

The EU bureaucrats want to make Brexit as painful to England as possible to scare other countries from leaving the EU. Although I am not fan of England I wish England prosper after Brexit because maybe one day we will decide to leave the EU as well.

MR Trump the world does not run according to your fake Trump university or your fake orange tan.

I guess that will damage UK more than EU. EU is a major economic block and UK would still love to have good economic ties after exiting it due to the proximity and sheer size of the economy.

Trump is trying to pressure EU with his statement by supporting UK which is not a surprise but it won't work. EU is a very bureaucratic organisation and everything will be done as per the rules and regulations.

More like Trump wants UK to leave with nothing so he can take full advantage of a weak UK with no big trading relations left intact.

Trump is annoyed the EU is not going along with Iran attack or sanctioning Chinese companies.

Unbeknown to retard Trump, he's actually giving advantage to China in dealing with post-Brexit Britain and EU. China wins!

Nobody is stopping UK to walk away without a deal. They should have done it by now, if they think EU is not offering them anything. As a matter of fact EU offered the reasonable face saving, but what Teresa wanted to re-negotiate the negotiation which were already concluded. EU has not budge on it until now. They will not in the future either. Therefore, the option of walking away without a deal was always there for the UK.
As for Trump suggestions for UK not to pay $50 bn severance package. That could also be a choice for the UK.
They should weigh up that choice. The result would be rocketed prices in the UK and the public would just make mince meat of their politicians not to negotiate the deal in months.
Secondly, the EU can slap some tariffs on the UK, which would destroy UK's economy in the short run, they are so much reliant on the trade with EU.

UK's ordeal at dialogue table is incredible but it is not unprecedented. Here, UK is dealing with a greater power than her so she can't use any pressure to get the deal of her liking. Walking away without paying the severance package would have serious repercussion for all future trade and that will cause UK even bigger loss. Trump himself does not enjoy any good relations with EU.

No one would have any trust in UK if they did not pay what it legally requires to EU.
UK economy would be pretty much finished if it did that and that is why even the idiot Farage does not advocate that.
Trump is the biggest of all retards for even suggesting it.

Give Trump a new Golf club so he maybe stop giving stupid proposals and go playing Golf... in my eyes the most safe employment for this US president... watch sumo fights and play Golf and stop destroy the world order

Trump is a idiot

He is an economic terrorist and a bully (like all other US presidents) but he is not an idiot. He knows what he is doing. The EU is US economic competitor, so Trump wants to weaken the EU.

More like Trump wants UK to leave with nothing so he can take full advantage of a weak UK with no big trading relations left intact.

Trump is targeting the EU. I don't think the EU will be able to stand up to Trump. Only great leaders of great countries like Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin or Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei are able to stand up to bully Trump.

About time UK exit from the cuck camp and re-discover its true potential in the new world.

You are wrong on so many counts, I don't know where to begin.
The argument you gave is a typical cock and bull story paddled by the Leave Campaigners.
The reality is completely different, be in the Europe was massively beneficial for the UK.
I don't usually vote, neither my wife does. But that day I made sure we both walk to the booth to cast our votes to remain in Europe.
