Trump says China could face more than $500 billion in US tariffs

US is bound to lose, they will have big trouble finding an alternative for many Chinese products and pay way more, at same time, US compaies will lose the world biggest market which is still getting bigger rapidly. China has a whole world to trade with and the amount she does with US is pretty small but US will say goodbye to the market of one fifth of the increasingly wealthier humanity.

I think US will be in bigger loss on trade war as Chinese have market all over the world and can trade with more nations than USA in my opinion.

US may retaliate by imposing sanctions and force othere to avoid trade with China but China is already too large of an economy to be easily contained. In my opiniom US will damage her own economy and Chinese despite making less money from abroad will still be able to lead the world in manifacturing and producing cheap and quality goods

The tariffs will hit Chinese goods exports, which in turn will make other countries more competitive since China will sell less to America and other countries will fill in the spaces.

And once this happens, rival countries will become more competitive and start taking away China's market share in other countries also.

What other rival country ? India ?

Who cares ? Just wait for the next US economic crisis and make sure you profit from it.

America has incurred an annual trade deficit of $300 billion usd with china of course a trade war will hurt china and benefit America. now America can use that $300 billion trade deficit with china and give it to other worthwhile allies like japan and south korea and make them stronger economically.

I already said, trade with America is a privilege, not a right. no country in the world can replace American market for the Chinese. name me which country that can give china $300 billion usd of trade surplus every year? the answer is NONE. the Chinese will crap in their pants knowing that from now on, they will lose an annual of $300 billion usd dollars and that $300 billion usd is going into the hands of south korea and japan; meaning more F-35 for those countries.

And trading with China is also a privilege. No country in the world have a workforce with IQ 105, disciplined and quality better even than German or Swiss, but as cheap. Without China, no country, again, no country in the world can supply such quality but affordable products. North Vietnam and North Korea are the only two remaining areas in the world with cheap, but high IQ and relatively disciplined workforce, but they are too small and lack many necessary infrastructure to replace even a small part of China export.

Without China, 95% world population would not have access to Internet, mobiphone, TV and things like this.

Just wait and see who will have the last laugh.

Wow, Americans are 2G(Genius and Generous). They are ready to buy at least 10% expensive goods from Japan anf Korea (300 + 30)330 billion goes out from US and in return they buy F35 10 billion in five years. So US gives them 150bilion in 5 years so that they each can return US 10 billions in next 5 years. You are too good with economy, Please give us some share from that trade, we will love US more then anyone.

America is the most lucrative and most important market hence can’t be replaced by any country. What more important most people don’t know the US can impose her will by forcing other to follow. She can cut trades with China to zero. She can command her allies to cut trades with China. The Chinese shouldn’t complain. they want to control the SC sea. They want to drive the US out of Asia.

I’m actually amazed that America is in an economic war with the rest of the world and they are still standing. What is it about their economy that makes them so resilient?
you're amazed too early. the war just started. you just cannot wait to declare the winner, can you?

The US can't do any of that.

The US is a rich country. She will withstand a total loss of China as market and production base. You are an important player but replaceable by other countries.

The US can't do any of that.
Look at US sanction on Iran! Once the US places sanction on the country, nearly all countries on this planet including the Chinese have to follow. There are more examples. Not tariffs, the US have the most powerful weapon at hand if implemented will bring China economy into a total disaster: the dollar.

China external trades can come to a standstill should the US forbid the use of US dollar in China.

The direct impact of trade tensions on China’s economic growth in 2018 is expected to be limited at between 0.1 to 0.3 percentage points

China’s plan to open up its markets “can stay on course,” with its economy growth target of 6.5 percent this year South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan and Singapore are most at risk in Asia based on trade openness and exposure to supply chains.

China export to US accounts only 18% of its total export value, and export just contributes 22% to China's GDP. In the extrem scenario, this trade war will lead to 1/3 export cut to US, and China can live with it. But I highly doubt if US can, under the punch of a combination of price hike and China retaliation.

Most importantly, China now already become the largest market in the world. A No2 country living on debts starts a trade war with No1 holding the largest manufacturing capacity in human history , and wish to win? I was wondering where the courage that hubris dumb trump comes from ? Not surprise phychiatrists conclude this moron still live in the era of last 90s.

Soon we will hear tens of millions US consumers screaming in walmart and millions of american farmers cursing in the field. Today should be a historic day to remember, witnessing the start of the collapse of that evil empire called US of A.
