A benefit of that for US is reduced security costs in the Strait of hormuz. I dont see much disadvantage for US if Saudis and Iranians are friends. US can also negotiate with this "friendship" group with Israel. But as things are now US can only get Saudis in the negotiating room, even if it is a succesful negotiation.

That is your problem your world starts from few weapons and end on others. You are forgetting in this Pakistan will not be alone but Pakistan is fulfilling its obligation to its ally. Pakistan stayed out of Yemen because we would never support an invasion but Pakistan has wowed to defend holy cities and we will do it under any cost so trumps words are just pointless that he is defending Saudis. It is Pakistan that actually defends Saudis not USA.
