Its funny, back in the days USA wanted to take all the credit, and now all they do is , we just provided the money and some weapons, Pakistan and ISI did the rest ..

we never take credit, they supplied weapons and money but the actual ground work was all Pakistan, infact the yanks wrote Pakistan off as it will fall to the soviets. I discovered that Britain and France were the first to come and take a stand with Pakistan to supply weapons among other training. Britain supplied blowpipe MANPAD before Stingers which came later on.
