In the days before his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki Monday, President Donald Trump upset relations with America's allies during a visit to the United Kingdom and a contentious meeting with NATO leaders in Brussels.

In addition to calling the European Union a "foe" of the U.S. and criticizing British Prime Minister Theresa May for her handling of Brexit, Mr. Trump slammed fellow NATO countries for not contributing more towards defense spending.

On "CBS This Morning" Monday, Ian Bremmer, president of the Eurasia Group and a CBS News senior global affairs contributor, said that backstage at the NATO meeting there were elements that were even more eyebrow-raising than reports have suggested.

"One is that emergency session where they asked the Georgian and Ukrainian presidents to leave in the middle of their presentation. Apparently Trump said, 'OK, we're done with you now,'" Bremmer said.

"Trump was very frustrated; he wasn't getting commitments from other leaders to spend more. Many of them said, 'Well, we have to ask our parliaments. We have a process; we can't just tell you we're going to spend more, we have a legal process.' Trump turns around to the Turkish president, Recep Erdogan, and says, 'Except for Erdogan over here. He does things the right way,' and then actually fist-bumps the Turkish president."

It was a startling gesture of support for the increasingly authoritarian Turkish leader, who recently won another term and is widely expected to continue consolidating his power.

"If you want to talk about to what extent the allies are comfortable with Trump as a person, a strongman leader, what we saw at the G-20. at that second meeting, what we see now with NATO and the Putin meeting, this is a very visible suggestion," Bremmer said.

"Which would make a fist bump unattractive and disturbing to people – it's a universal sign of 'Way to go, good job,'" said co-host Gayle King.

Bremmer agreed that heralding a strongman leader like Erdogan, who has initiated purges internally against critics and who has no effective domestic opposition, would make other European leaders nervous. "Turkey is hardly a liberal democracy at this point," he said.

( must say, Im enjoying to much imagining bremmers fuming face over Trump-Sultan fist bump) lol

Well, if Trump said it...

thats not the point. why do you guys instantly jump on pioliticking, along party lines. Its tribal.
Point is fucking unreveling of post WWII US policies, practices, partnerships , or if zou want to be more dramatic the world order, turning it on its head. 3 years ago, US president would fist bump Merkel, not Erdogan or any turkish president. Im trying to exmplain it in simpliest way posible.
And this NATO summit tidbit has additional humours, amusing note to it. WHich is always welcomed.

So,you think the world order is changing just because the most unreliable( and most hated by his allies) American leader of all time fist bumped Erdogan, the second most hated leader by his allies?
Trump is with you today and against you tomorrow, cannot be trusted,or am i wrong?
Btw,i dont see you as a foreigner.

Oh, its changing alright. Exactly. Fist bump and the comment along with the wider context of the state of international affairs today is perfect symbolism of fore mentioned shifts. Shifts that will create opportunries for some contries, Turkey iuncluded to use this dynamics in their favor and navigite then to position them self in more powerful, influenced roles on the internqatzional srage in neat future. Cause this opotunitz will not last long.
Havent you read the article? I didnt copy the entire article just the bit about Turkey, there s more.
And this is not the only one, I chose this one for it amusing details and Turkeys role in it.

As for Trump, he is an idiot, but idiot sitting in the chair of the most powerful country in human history. So, yes, things he says, does, and thinks metter a lot. In case of Turkey particulary, its no secret in WH circles and washighton media that he is quite fond of president Erdogan which condisering that he highly puts emphasis on his personal feelings and relationships with other leaders then on anything else. Its on his initiative that Pompeo was sent to Turkey to "make thing right with the Turks", its his aids who are lobying sentators on softening the stance re S400 and sanctions on f35...

As for Erdogan, I dont agree, maybe Merkel, or Macron have some less favorable feelings or Dutch PM. But Im not sure for the rest. But in the end it really doesnt metter, they need Erdogan and Turkey on their team, most certanly dont want it as an enemy

I imagine them Western Liberals and anti- Turkish Fake News journalists when reading that small article. I know a fist bump means nothing and that a dozen problems are to be solved between Turkey and the US yet news like this make me Lol. :D

We have also experienced in Pakistan, that in countries where USA is unpopular, CIA kill its opponent's reputation by showing off being close or privy to him, while in reality CIA wants to bring down the person in question and vice versa.
Bottom line is that US president election is a big farce. He is there just because he was designed to be there, if he's acting a$$hole like Trump, it's part of the plan, if he's black its also according to plans, nothing is left to accident by CIA.
