No.No because Russia threatened to nuke NATO if they invaded and overthrew President Assad.
Already at the beginning of the Syrian Civil War, Obamas adminstration came to the conclusion that there were no ”good guys” in Syria, so the US ignored the conflict initially.
Many Syrian officers and soldiers deserted, disgusted with the atrocities of the Assad regime and the Free Syrian Army started to appear as an umbrella organisation for the rebels looking for a democratic future. They were hard pressed by Assads forces, only armed with light weapons, so finally the US shipped some TOW missiles.
Meanwhile rich Saudis and Gulf State Arabs tried to overthrow the Assad regime and Turkey joined the same effort. The US did start training rebels, producing maybe a dozen in the end.
The US support of non Assad forces is now higher, but focused on the destruction of the Daesh.
