NEW DELHI: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck northeast India's Assam region on Wednesday (Apr 24), the US Geological Survey said.

The quake's epicentre was located 113 kilometres northwest of the town of Dibrugarh, at a shallow depth of 30 kilometres, the USGS said.

A HUGE 6.1 magnitude earthquake has shaken India's Assam Region with reports of huge tremors hitting Tibet.

The quake's epicentre was located 70 miles (113 km) northwest of the town of Dibrugarh.

It had a shallow depth of 18.6 miles (30 km), the USGS said.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) also reported a magnitude 5.9 earthquake in the contested Arunachal Pradesh region.

The epicentre was located 41 km northwest from the city of Aalo at a depth of 10 km, according to the EMSC.

China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC) also reports a magnitude 6.3 earthquake in Tibet

The quake comes the same day as a tremor in the Philippines – which came only 24 hours after another which killed 11 people.

Witnesses have reported feeling “violent shaking” and suffering power outages in the quake.

Hope no human casualty....but i think 6 is not dangerous for normal human inhabited places on earth...

Hope no human casualty....but i think 6 is not dangerous for normal human inhabited places on earth...

Shallow earth quakes of even lower strength are more damaging than deeper quakes with higher strength. Hope people are safe.

Very true.

People are fixated on the Richter Scale aspect but depth is most important consideration.
