Trillion Dolla India versus Failed Pakistan

So everyday we are reminded that India is -

  • Trillion dolla economy
  • 5th largest economy
  • Mumbai has bigger GDP apparently then all of Pakistan
  • that India is roaring while Pakistan is failing
  • that India is drowning in success and Pakistan is wallowing in failure

So let's look beyond the numbers and boasting. Indian Punjab is adjacent to Pakistani Punjab and is one of India's more prosperous states. Many Sikhs from this state live abroad in USA or UK or Canada. Amritsar in Indian Punjab is only about 20 miles from Lahore in Pakistani Punjab. Both cities are Punjabi speaking with shared history but a international border running in the middle. It is important to note that Sikhs of Amritsar, Indian Punjab are considered as a wealthy community relative to rest of India.

So I thought it would be interesting to see what Amritsar in trillion dolla India looks like. Are the streets lined in gold? Is it land of milk and honey? What is it like across the border? I would ask Pakistani's who live in Lahore or the adjoining Pakistan Punjab to look at this and contribute by comparing Pakistan Punjab with trillion Dolla Indian Punjab. For a lay observor what caught my eye besides the filth was the number of man powered rickshaws. I have never seen rickshaw pullers in Pakistan. Indeed I think it is against the law since 1952. But in one of India's most prosperous states man powered rickshaws are everywhere which raises the question of how cheap Indian labour is in that it can compete against motor rickshaws. So here is how the trillion dolla India looks just across the border of failed Pakistan.

The Sikh women interestingly almost wear the same Shalwar Kameez as in Pakistan which is not a surprise.

Another Genius post. You are truly what I call a "Padha-Likha Gawar". Based on one YouTube video you found during your obsessive behavior- you started a baseless self fellatio thread about economics.

Chandigarh is like Islamabad, new planned capitals. You can do that comparison if you want. I asked Pakistani Punjabi members to compare their part with Indian Punjab. I am sure we have members from cities like Sialkot or Gujranawala which are in Pakistani Punjab not too distant from Amritsar and of similar size. I can certainly tell you we do not have man articulated rickshaw taxis in Pakistan.

Yes it does. But a quick history lesson for you. At nearly 5,000 years there was no India, there was no Hinduism, no Christianity or Islam or Judaism at that point in time. It is even before the vedas.

Islamabad - twin of Chandigarh. Planned new capital city.
Like how you compare Islamabad to Chandigarh. LOL
here compare Islamabad to Gurgaon. It'll leave you with many TRILLION DOLLA sleepless nights.

Also would love to hear your anguish filled thoughts about Mumbai vs Karachi.

Butt hurt is real, I understand accepting reailty is hard, it gets even worse when you see that other country is flourishing day and night with FDI keeps on pouring while yours has been reduced to a person with constant begging bowl in hand.

Again mr.tt wants to compare Islamabad with Chandigarh, he does not know capital of india is delhi.
Leave delhi, compare with mumbai or bangalore and you will again as usual scratch your head as TT, lol

5th largest economy

It's the sixth largest and after the rupee devaluation it must be now the 7th largest in nominal terms....

And France and Germany has a population of about 60 million and 85 million respectively, India is 1350 million or 135 crore, 1.35 billion.

India ranks 131 th in the per capita GDP income in the world, a better measurement of living standards, nowhere near to any developed country where the average per capita is around 45,000 USD. India nominal per capita income is around 1,900 USD.

This is an internet hoax just as...

- 40 percent of NASA engineers are Indians

- India pips China to become the largest FDI destination....so on and so forth and Indians keep on quoting and living these fake statistics on YouTube, here and just about any forum.

Your statement is self contradictory...you're doing the same thing posting YouTube videos and assuming and presuming things.

YouTube vids does gives some plausible pictures of what is the city life and how does the city or for that matter the surroundings looks like...but can be cherry picked, picking the best of the lot and ignoring 90 percent of the reality. You did the same...

Yes, because this is what the troll who started this thread understands. He’s the one comparing economies based on video he found- as I have already stated. Replying in like.

It is Sixth. I assume you don't understand how devaluation affects GDP, not exactly the way you think.

How come it becomes sixth from fifth....wasn't devaluation the reason, the GDP growth rate was stellar...

Why not Capital City Vs Capital City

i.e Why not lahore vs Chandigarh ?

Yupp first thing that crossed my mind, when comparing with lahore, why not compare with chandigarh .
Lahore is capital city of pakistani punjab, then why not compare with capital city of indian punjab ?

TT can you answer ?

Lahore vs Chandigarh. No comparison at all.
GDP of Lahore-------- $35 billion
GDP of Chandigarh----$5 billion
Population of Lahore-----12.1 million
Population of Chandigarh-----1.2 million
Area of Lahore ----1,772 km2 (684 sq mi)
Area of Chandigarh-----114 km2 (44 sq mi)
Number of universities in Lahore-----------34
Number of universities in Chandigarh------03

Has Lahore overtaken Colombo and Islamabad as the cleanest city in South Asia?
I certainly think so . Lahore wasn't all that bad to begin with but recently it has gone through a major facelift and some of the newer localities are absolutely top notch . Islamabad to me is just too small compared to the other major cities and even if you disregard the size i think over the years it has lost it's shine a tad bit . Still top notch by South Asian standards though . In terms of size and cleanliness the only real competitor to Lahore has to be Colombo . Any PPer from Srilanka who has been to Lahore(Pakistan) in the last few months ??

Indian and Bangladeshi cities need a major makeover . Even the bigger ones like Mumbai , Delhi , Dhaka , and kolkata have terrible aesthetics.

This Indian scholar on South Asian affairs seems to agree somewhat.
