Really...India has always maintained that it is Pakistan that start the war...so you are backtracking from your stance?

I think China is in the process of building dam on Brahamaputra and I'm pretty sure the country of 3 gorges dams will do a splendid job with it.

Fortunately, India is water rich.

Brahamaputra is a NE river and even I don't think the dam on Brahamaputra will effect much, because majority of tributes of Brahamaputra originate in India. Moreover, even BD will suffer in case of lesser water.

But the problem is if India takes the example of dam on Brahamaputra by Chinese to build a dam on Indus, Pakistan will suffer.

Who says Ganges starts in China. Dont depend on China for everything. Even if there is violation, it will take a decade to build the dams. The water flow wont be cut off. It will reduce. Pakistan will go to court then there may me some litigation. Global warming, power requirement, Kashmir's loss due to the treaty, run of the river projects, clause to store water to flush silt India has plenty of excuse.
Pakistan can do the following
1) Play the victim and go to international court.
2) Ask China to blackmail India with Brahmaputra water.
3) Use its terrorist proxies.
4) If all the above fails, convince its population that dams being run of the river wont reduce the flow.

If Pakistan attacks it will be beneficial for India. India will have the excuse to abrogate the treaty or under International pressure agree to honour the treaty with modification i.e India having greater share citing the skewed nature of the treaty in Pakistan's favour, Pakistan's faliure to build dams to store monsoon waters and India's growing requiremnt.

Escalations and rise of terror attacks both should continue. It will be easier for India to play the victim card. What Pakistan does not understand that with rise in the number of terror attacks , the demand to cancel the treaty will rise among Indian population. And there is no political opposition to it. And in India election issue is the ultimate decider, no USA, World Bank or China.

Remember India does not act till she is pushed against the wall but once she decides to act, India will ignore the world.

to finish off the treaty is easy to say than done.... and why we shouldnt depend on our allies ..if you are going around the world trying to act like a mini power of the world just because US is trying to put u up against the China that doesnt mean other countries aint got no cards to play against u or shudnt play against u ....

It seems like india won't dare to violate the Indus Treaty. India understands very well that Pakistan is not going to behave submissively like Bangladesh does.

If India breaches or abrogates the Indus Waters Treaty, it would be a violation of international law.

So What ?? The treaty is between the Two countries, and if one party wants to get away from it what's the big deal just like the agreement of ABM between USSR and U.S.A, where U.S.A when felt they broke the accord and goes for the ABM development.

A breach of Article 2(4) would trigger Pakistan’s inherent right to self-defence.

I am amused with the Pakistani Logics and their reactions

1. India, haven't uttered a single word to broke the IWT agreement officially, rather they are only reviewing this agreement.

2. If they think Kashmiris are their brothers, then it was the J&K assembly that basses the resoulution to oppose this agreement, because they feel they are not getting their right. And Pakistani obviously can and will stay thirsty for their Kashmiri Brother.

3. It was the study done in 2010 which revealed that if India could utilize fully its share of water according to the rules of this agreement, which will be enough to hit the pakistan.

4. The Pakistani Case is itself weak, as 50% of the fresh water goes wasted and merge with the sea, thus it is the Pakistan who is unable to utilized the precious water, so going to the International bodies will only prove that Pakistan don't need the water and have abundance, thus India will get bigger share.

5. For those who are making the ideotic post of attacking the infrastucture in India like Dams is funny, because by doing that, first they are undermining the Indian Air Defence Capability, Turning eyes closed for the outcome of this daring act, and third even if they succeded not thinking of the sudden surge of the water release in the shape of flood.
