so when exactly will we start producing/inducting block 2 JFT's?

j10b production wont stop in the next decade
integrating the latest chinese tech , which china will also induct
setting blk52+ as benchmark
chances of upgradation
reliability-- maybe even tot
countering su30 , in indian airspace
lesser responsibility on f16s
greater payload , range , thrust , hardpoints , stronger radar

it will give paf greater offensive punch

Only acceptable items are which i highlighted in your post.
which are neutralized by lesser agility and greater RCS as compare to JFT-
All the rest items are in favor of JFT.

SU-30 will never be countered on one to one basis while JFT will have BVR and AESA and is inherently more agile than J-10b.

i wont derail the thread-- so i will stop by saying

in order for deep strikes, [not point defence, where jf17 is sufficient], our awacs might not help our aircrafts--- i will always take an aircraft with more powerful radar/range/inherent fuel capacity/ greater hard points

Secondly , i havent seen j10b flying yet, so i cant comment on its performance -- but i bet it would be better, when its inducted after a couple of years

Delta wingsbecome better with increased altitudes

Thirdly, paf might know the structural enhancement limitations/programmes for jf17 blk3--- so they opted for fc20

There was news of paf negotiating the fc20 price between 25 mil/piece

JFT is a true multi role.
IFR increase its range while without IFR it has ferry range of 3000km.
without convincing reasons i can't favor spending $36 million/piece on J-10B.

Dear All, one squadron of JF-17s is up and running (16 planes) and the another one is close to being formed. That makes 32 birds, and the PAF is also ramping up production. AFM mentioned the PAF was planning on 2 planes a month, but this was before the additional production increase. As such, is it safe to say that Block 2 might be out by late next year, 2011? That would be pretty amazing, if it is true. Take care.

This is J10, and J10B is heavily improved version of J10 based on PAF requirements, its more maneuverable and agile as compared to JFT, with 11 hard points, better airframe, powerful engine, more range, speed, payload, high tech avionics and dozens of more thing better then JFT, and PAF needs platform to load it with tons of weapons, it can carry nearly double weapons as compared to JFT and believe me J10b is right choice, bcoz PAF has chosen it, and PAF knows well about J10b better then you and me:cheers:

I've been away from the forum for a little while, so maybe I missed a few things. How come nobody's mentioned the proposed TVC capabilities of the FC-20 as a plus-point? Is that off the table?

Also, what about range, radar, electronic warfare suit, avionics etc. Aren't those not all good reasons to go for the FC-20?

Hi, the FC-20 is in a larger and heavier class than the JF-17 and you can't really compare them. It is like comparing the F-16 to the F-15.

The FC-20 has an engine (WS-10A) that produces 30K+ lbs of thrust, whereas the JF-17's RD-93 barely manages 18K+ lbs. It is heavier, has a larger more powerful radar, has longer range, larger IRST, more payload, more fuel, etc. The JF-17 has always been touted as a low cost lightweight fighter. These two planes make a good high/low combination mix. Please also look at the link below. Take care.

Great post...Goes to show JF-17 still has lots of potential.
In addition to all that..may be PAF should consider developing Decoy JF-17s as an anti SAM or Anti BVR solution. Can be towed,or self propelled.

Hi Mr Safriz, I am sure both the PAF and the PLAAF are aware of these goodies. Moreover, if possible, it might be easier for the PAF to buy these from BAE as they are a leader in this field. Please look at the link and the PDFs on the link. Thanks!

Nice read about JFT but why is PAF still going for FC-20?

FC-20 have large delta wings, its air intakes and frontal shape still need improvement. it shall not be considered until both are improved.
When both items will be redesigned than it shall be re-evaluated.

With a new sensor rich environment dominated by AWACS on both sides and a large number of BVR platforms, higher altitude BVR engagements would become vital.J-10s are ideally suited for such combat given their aerodynamics including low wing loading in an A2A configuration. The instantaneous turn rates achievable on the J-10 (or the Euro canards) are likely to give an advantage in such engagements, as opposed to the high wing loadings on the over-evolved F-16s which were essentially designed for turning dog fights rather than high altitude BVR slash and dash maneuvers.

Handshaking is never an issue with known protocols..
Problem is whether the manufacturer is willing to allow use of that protocol on a licensed basis..(by that I mean the swedes).
We are using secure radio's on our current jets as well which are from a different country and make..
The army radio is a combination of In house and imported tech..
Yet.. these systems will be interoperable with each other.

So what I learned from this info is that Pakistan Air Force is heavily engaged in J10B which mean we are close to TOT. I seriously love the shape of J-10B, its inlet is amazingly sexy. (I hate the inlet of J10 though).
Can any one comment on the number of J-10Bs we'll be getting? is it still 36? after so much co-operation and special requirements only 36?

Mentioned by different sources and articles that the number can easily go upto 150 with in house manufacturing facility can also be obtained
