One million Kashmiri Muslim refugees were uprooted and an estimated 2,500,00-300,000 were massacred in the Jammu region alone in August-October 1947. Violence was directed in the main by the Dogra Hindu state troopers aimed at driving them out from fear of death.

This was a failure of India, its not an excuse to end the freedom struggle, it just shows that India is unfit to occupy Kashmir.
