Top People's Party member shot in Karachi

Sunday 17 July 2011by Our Foreign Desk Printable Email

A leading member of the ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in Karachi was shot dead on Saturday evening, according to police.

Witnesses said that gunmen had opened fire on the car of Amir Shah, chairman of the employees' union at Pakistan International Airlines.

He was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries. Another person in the car was also killed.

The gunmen fled and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Fighting between supporters of the PPP and the Muttahida Qaumi movement erupted in the city last week after a PPP leader accused the movement's leader Altaf Hussain of being a murderer.

Fifteen people died in street fights on Wednesday and Thursday and police fear Mr Shah's killing may lead to renewed violence.

PPP members surrounded the hospital where he died today, firing into the air and demanding vengeance.

Police also said that "miscreants" had set a bus on fire in the Metrovil area of the city, but that they were not sure of the incidents were linked.

The People's Labour Bureau, a sister organisation of the party, announced three days of mourning for Mr Shah today.

Gunmen in the north-west Kurram region ambushed a bus on Saturday, killing all 10 people aboard.

Those on the bus were Sunnis and it was travelling through a Shi'ite area, according to local government official Mohammed Ali, but the motive of the killers was still unknown.

The area has seen incursions by the Pakistani military recently as they struggle to crush militants they say are allied to the Taliban.

Pity it wasnt zardari

Benazir's former security guard killed, violence erupts

KARACHI: Aamir Shah, the former security guard of assassinated Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and a senior leader of the ruling PPP, was gunned down, triggering a fresh wave of violence in Pakistan's financial capital.

42-year-old Shah, who headed the Peoples Unity Union of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), was killed by attackers on motorcycles who opened fire at his white Toyota Corolla near Kamran Chowrangi in the troubled Gulistan-e- Jauhar area yesterday.

Shah, who started his political career with the Peoples' Youth Wing (of the PPP), was Bhutto's security guard when she returned to Pakistan in October 2007 to contest the general elections in the country.

The killing of the senior PPP activist sparked a fresh wave of violence in Pakistan's biggest city, claiming as many as 11 lives over the last 24 hours and leaving scores wounded.

The domestic and international operations of Pakistan's national carrier were also badly hit after employees went on a snap strike to protest and mourn the killing of Shah.

Shah, who succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital, was among the party's senior activists and he had served at many different posts in his 18 years with the party.

Witnesses said the gunmen intercepted Shah's car before shooting the PPP leader and his friend Mairaj Khalid Jagirani.

Karachi chief of police Saud Mirza said the assailants probably targeted the men shortly after they finished filling up fuel near Kamran Chowrangi.

He said it was too early to say anything about the motive behind the attack as the investigation was underway and details were being gathered.

As the news of the incident spread, agitated PPP workers reached the hospital seeking the arrest of the people responsible.

The fresh wave of violence began after two days of calm in the metropolis.

Hmm..I thought PPP is in some sort of silent alliance with MQM on the streets. Just wanted to confirm.

Also tell if I am correct - ANP is for Pathans, MQM for Mohajirs and PPP for Sindhis and Balochis. Right ?

BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhuanet) -- A central leader of the ruling Pakistan People's Party has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen, in the port city of Karachi.

Local media reports say the gunmen opened fired against the car of Amir Shah, critically wounding him. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but later died.

Another person in the car was also killed. The assailants fled immediately after Saturday night's incident. No group has claimed responsibility for the assassination.

Police suspect the killing is most likely a targeted attack. Karachi has experienced a surge of political and ethnic violence in the last week, which claimed 15 lives on Wednesday and Thursday.

Ghalat baat-
Kisi ki mout nahi mangtay- us k liye Hidayat mangtay hein-

Hazor SAW nay bhi donon Omer mein say kisi aik k liye hidayat mangi thi-

Allah zardari ko hidayat dey. Ameen.

Keep praying for his guidance and in this while he and other rotten faces will continue raping the country and the poor people.

No chance for faces like them to come to the right path. Allah helps those who help themselves, so, do these rotten ugly faces help themselves to come to the right path?

My fear is that our voters may begin to understand the value of their votes when the time will be completely over to do anything to change the course of Pakistan.
