I'm glad they didn't make Maverick a confused pilot undergoing transition surgery to become a the female fighter pilot he/she always wanted to be.

The guy is naval aviator so they had to choose F-18 to keep their story straight. Navy doesn't fly F-15s or Raptors.

The should have changed his role to USAF. Hard to digest that a good pilot like him spent all his life as a "Captain".

If you remember from 1st movie, he was a Naval Aviator, USN does not operate F-15's. Tomcats in the 1st and Hornets in the second.

A Naval Captain is a Colonel. Seems OK if he has been repeatedly passed over for promotion
