Top Economist Urges China to Seize TSMC If US Ramps Up Sanctions

We don't think they're dumb (Not because of that reason anyways), we think they're hypocritical.

I am stating facts, Israel is a democracy, and the Palestinians are governed by the PA in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza.
You don’t get the irony in your own comments do you. Israel is a democracy? It’s running an apartheid state, nice try.

Lol, the Palestinian terrorists that didn't have elections in 16 years doubt we are a democracy

. .
Lol, Palestinians are terrorists, shows how hypocritical you both are, the Uyghurs did 1/1000th of what the Palestinians do to us and you rounded them all in concentration camps, yet you criticize us for defending ourselves against literal terrorists, and the Palestinians, which claim to be victims and cry to the Islamic world just ignore what's happening in China.

Palestinians torture dogs as well, you both are sick groups of people. Anyone hurting dogs is a literal subhuman.
You launch fireworks at dogs for fun, kick random cats in the street, we don't massacre Palestinians but you sure as hell deserve it.
You call people killing animals subhumans right ? That's you racist bigot's real attitudes ? What you call yourselves, killing human beings for fun ? Shit ?

Killing people that torture innocent dogs is perfectly fine.
Too bad we're not doing that

fake news. it was originally titled "不能让台积电转移到美国" the author is 陈文玲. suggesting the US wants to take TSMC more than China does, which makes good sense, all fabs in the US (Intel, GlobalFoundries,Micron etc.) are 3-7 years behind TSMC in tech, not to mention production capacity...

.
Taiwan is NOT Chinese territory. It’s that simple. No amount of Chinese yapping will change that.
Taiwan itself claims it's "China," as well as laying claim to many other countries' territories.

Yeah, you have thick face to admit that killing people are fine as long as you are not one of them, right ? Maybe, what the the Germans did were OK , too ? They have their "reasons" too.

.
this saying is like China can say Alaska and Hawaii are not US territories
They aren't US territories

They are US states........You do know State and Territories are defined differently in the US, right?

Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa are US territories, they have different Status than any US States......

No, they are not, and I worked for/with two of those three, and you can guess which two. TSMC excels at mass manufacturing. Tech nodes for mass manufacturing of commodity products are not the same as tech nodes at specialized niche products, which often must be done at higher nodes due to design requirements. Not always, just often. Micron have a history of keeping decades old recipes on hand, and NASA contractors often called Micron.

The annual capacity of the manufacturing facilities managed by TSMC and its subsidiaries exceeded 12 million 12-inch equivalent wafers in 2020. These facilities include four 12-inch wafer GIGAFAB® fabs, four 8-inch wafer fabs, and one 6-inch wafer fab – all in Taiwan – as well as one 12-inch wafer fab at a wholly owned subsidiary, TSMC Nanjing Company Limited, and two 8-inch wafer fabs at wholly owned subsidiaries, WaferTech in the United States and TSMC China Company Limited.

Fabs do not run 12 in wafers on a whim. Three hundred mm wafers have unique klompications and many customers do not want to risk with their commodity product lines, such as NAND use in the typical USB drives. On the other hand, SRAM is structurally complex to manufacture but is also a commodity product, so if a customer DEMANDS that TSMC uses 200 mm wafers for a specific product, TSMC must accommodate, if they want the contract.

Because the circuit structure of each DRAM basic memory unit is very simple, DRAM has low power consumption and low price. In this way, DRAM chips with large storage capacity can be manufactured at low cost. However, its disadvantage is that slow speed of reading and writing (capacitor needs to charge and discharge continuously) affects the performance of DRAM.
On the contrary, the structure of SRAM is more complex, which consists of six MOSs. We can label them with M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 and M6, respectively. These six MOSs need to be combined together in order to store one bit of data.

In fact, a client can even demand a foundry to build a wafer on a specific tech nodes, no matter how old. So just because TSMC is able to go down to 3 nanos on one or two lines, that does not mean others are 'behind' TSMC because they do not have their own fabs that can go down to that level. They may have made their stuff at 3 nanos at their own fabs, refined the process, and asked if TSMC can meet requirements.

As far as this news story go, the idea that China will seize hard assets is reasonable since China already violated IP left and right. If the CCP feels hard pressed enough, seizing foreign hard assets will be seen as justifiable.

Wouldn't it be pointless for the CCP to seize TSMCs foundarys? ASML would stop servicing the EUV machines in Taiwan, they'd be inoperative quite quickly I'd imagine ( and that's assuming the foundarys are taken intact). Sure there would be a disruption to the supply chain of high end node process wafers for awhile, but TSMC would continue trading as an entity and build new foundarys elsewhere.

China would not seize TSMC's hard assets for no reasons. China will come up with some reasons. The seizure would not be pointless. The reasons why would be absurd to everyone else, but China would not care for them. The seizure 'justifications' is for domestic consumption and would at least serve as trophies as well as China be able to discover some new technologies from those assets.

you only saw the surface, "TSMC excels at mass manufacturing" is the very result of their lead in tech, they keep expanding production line coz orders from apple and Qualcomm keep piling up, ask apple to switch to GF for patriotism's sake

it is always hard to admit defeat especially for you Americans, I know your kind well. at least learn from Intel who glorify its current 10nm process as “Intel 7” to make it look less bad..
