People living in the West should feel no shame about this. We do not take from Africa to feed and to discard. The intellectual dishonesty here is using FINISHED PRODUCTS in trying to shame the West. Rice is just as much a staple in the West as it is around the world, but finished products from rice can be downright unpalatable from one country to another. The West cannot send pizza, paella, spaghetti, sausages, meatloaf, strawberry jam, apple pie, cinnamon rolls, and assorted finished products to Africa. But the West have been sending raw agricultural products in humanitarian aid as well as expertise to Africa for decades. And this is STILL the result? Whose fault is that?

Yup, its not like the developed nations have had everything given to them on a platter, on the contrary, the snowy landscapes and lack of fertile soil makes a lot of high income nations barren of natural resources. One would point to Japan as being such an example, ridden with earthquakes, and lack of mineral wealth.

Its all about the quality of the human capital and their ability and will to better themselves.

Africa will always be like this. If they had some more bravery, honour, courage they wouldn't all been colonies. How many African countries fought to become independent after being a colony? Well these are the numbers per head right? I bet India is among the top food wasting countries if you look at the total volume, since millions of tons (more than 168 lakh metric tonnes in 2010) are simply rotting in storage because of incompetence to build better storage facilities.

A sweeping assumption indeed to write off centuries of Western imperialism and hegemony over Africa by claims of comparatively recent benevolence by way of aid or expertise. One could draw an analogy akin to asking a man to stand on his own feet after blowing his legs clean off. The entire African economy has been deliberately designed by Western imperialism into a state of economic dependency- a condition where the concerned nations neither consumes what it produces, nor produces what it consumes. The scenario is further worsened by the IMF and the World Bank with their structural adjustment programs that do more harm than good.

P.S# I really don't suppose that near-death starving kids from Africa would turn down actual food on account of it being unpalatable by their cultural norms.
