Tom Petty, the rocker best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is dead at 66, CBS News has confirmed.

The legendary musician suffered a full cardiac arrest and was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home Sunday night. He was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and put on life support, reports TMZ.

Petty rose to fame in the 1970s with his band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The group put out several hits, including "American Girl," "Free Fallin'," "Breakdown," "Listen to Her Heart" and more. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Sometimes i think how short is this life ..
Why do we waste this little precious blessing in hate and fights ..
Why do we suddenly forget that we came from clay and will go back to clay ..What is there to become proud of ..
World is just a deception and we are the actors acting in this stage for a limited time as organised by God ..
Atlast , we all have to go back to our lord ... no one can escape death even if u r a very famous person ...
May he rest in peace ...

Another great passes away, As the era of great musicians are coming to an end.. The Traveling Wilbury's consisted some of the most iconic male vocalists, Petty was the latest to go after Roy Orbison and George Harrison still lucky to have Bob Dylan with us

RIP

This was the guy that sang " I wont back down". Interesting, just a few days ago I was searching for the wikipedia article about that song and found out he was the singer.

Damn, he was a great musician. Wrote so many classic songs.

"I won't back down"
"The Waiting"
"Free Fallin"
"Learning to Fly"
"American Girl"

I always raised the volume whenever a song of his comes up on the radio.
What a legend.

RIP

Lost a lot of legends the past few years. This year alone we've lost Chuck Berry, Chris Cornell, Greg Allman, Chester Bennington, Glenn Campbell, and Tom Petty.

RIP....I was hoping it was fake news (there was some confusion regarding the announcement for a while).

He will be missed greatly. "American Girl" is a song I have always had on my most listened to mix CDs.

His best stuff I will have to get on vinyl now as tribute.
