Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian sprinter Lalu Muhammad Zohri spent his remaining time for practicing, adapting, and observing rivals before his race in the Summer Olympics' men's 100m athletics in Tokyo on Saturday (July 31).

Zohri revealed that one of his current areas of focus was to adapt to the starting block used in the Olympics while admitting that the blocks were different from what he was accustomed to during his practice in Indonesia. Despite the difference, he did not perceive it as an issue.

"I have only a one-time experience using the starting block (used in the Olympics), but I am motivated and challenged by that," Zohri noted in a release by the National Olympic Council (NOC) Indonesia on Thursday.

The 21-year-old sprinter is striving to demonstrate his maximum ability in his Olympics debut. He has also set a target to be the first Indonesian sprinter to complete a 100-metre run in under 10 seconds.

Zohri recorded his personal best time of 10.03 seconds in the 100m run in the 2019 Golden Grand Prix in Osaka, Japan. The achieved record guaranteed Zohri's position to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The sprinter has spent time in light-intensity exercises and practice sessions since April 2021 and attended a test event at the Tokyo Olympics Stadium on May 2021. During the test event, he finished in the seventh place in the final run, clocking a time of 10.45 seconds, slower than his first round when he had recorded a 10.34-second run.

"I am currently healthy and fit and also no longer have any ankle issue," Zohri noted in connection with his recent ankle surgery after an injury in November 2020.

Zohri will compete in the men’s 100m preliminary round, scheduled to take place at the Tokyo Olympics Stadium on Saturday (July 31), with the final round to be held on the following day.

Sunisa Lee has won gold in the gymnastics all-around at the Tokyo Olympics.

Americans have now won gold in the women's gymnastics all-around for the last five Olympic Games, starting with Carly Patterson in 2004, Nastia Liukin in 2008, Gabby Douglas in 2012 and Simone Biles in 2016.

The Minnesota-based Lee went into the all-arounds with a medal already in her pocket, having been part of the U.S. team that won silver Tuesday.

The first Hmong American Olympian, Lee, 18, reached victory with a strong performance in her signature event, uneven bars, and a strong vault.

IOC praises weightlifter Laurel Hubbard before transgender athlete’s Olympic debut

1627567750222.png

The International Olympic Committee has praised the weightlifter Laurel Hubbard’s “courage and tenacity” as she prepares to become the first transgender athlete to compete in an Olympics on Monday. The IOC’s medical and science director, Dr Richard Budgett, said “everyone agrees that trans women are women”.
Hubbard’s participation in Tokyo has proved controversial with her supporters hailing it as a historic moment for trans rights with the IOC’s critics believing that the 42-year-old New Zealander, who had never competed internationally until transitioning at 35, has an unfair and substantial advantage.

Budgett accepted that the issue was “large, difficult and complex”, but backed Hubbard’s right to compete.“To put it in a nutshell, the IOC had a scientific consensus back in 2015,” he said. “There are no IOC rules or regulations around transgender participation. That depends on each international federation. So Laurel Hubbard is a woman, is competing under the rules of her federation and we have to pay tribute to her courage and tenacity in actually competing and qualifying for the Games.”

While Budgett appeared to accept Hubbard had an advantage from going through male puberty, he stressed that inclusivity was an important factor too. “There are lots of aspects of physiology and anatomy, and the mental side, that contribute to an elite performance,. It’s very difficult to say, ‘yes, she has an advantage because she went through male puberty,’ when there’s so many other factors to take into account,” he said.
“It’s not simple. Each sport has to make their own assessment depending on the physiology of that sport, so that they can ensure there is fair competition, but also the inclusion of everyone – whether they’re male or female – so they are able to take part in the sport they love.”

As first revealed in the Guardian, the IOC has delayed updating its 2015 guidelines because finding a consensus has proved so difficult. But, as things stand, they state that trans women can compete in the women’s category without gender reassignment surgery as long as they keep their total testosterone level in serum below 10 nanomoles per litre.

Those guidelines have been challenged on multiple fronts, with critics noting the vast majority of females, including elite athletes, have a testosterone range of 0.12-1.78 nmol/L.
Recent scientific papers have also shown that anyone who undergoes male puberty retains significant advantages in power and strength even after taking medication to suppress their testosterone levels.

“There is a lot of disagreement across the whole world of sport and beyond on this issue of eligibility,” said Budgett. “Everyone agrees transgender women are women. But it’s a matter of eligibility for sport, and particular events, and it really has to be very sport-specific.
“One of the reasons there is no new framework published yet is not just because of the difficulty in coming to any consensus. It’s because it would have been inappropriate to come out with new guidelines just before the Olympics. There will be a new framework to help individual sports and we’re working very closely with them, but it’s not published yet.”

So having narrow hips which exert more force is ignored.
Having more muscle mass is ignored.
Having greater bone density ignored.
Having greater lung and heart capacity is ignored.
But testosterone is only counted lol.....

The IOC is retarded and this fraud who couldn't compete with the best of men and has to come to bully women with his disgusting pleas is an affront to all girls who dream of competing fairly and female rights.

What Trump said about it lol;

He asked the crowd what they thought of “men” being “allowed to compete in women’s sports” before alluding to Hubbard.

“Did you see the weightlifter?” Trump asked. “I hate to tell you this, women, but [she] shattered your long-standing record.”

Trump then claimed it was “so unfair” that Hubbard is allowed to compete.

He also claimed that, if he was the coach of a female sports team, he would only recruit transgender athletes. :sarcastic:

USA men team cannot grab 3 on 3 basketball Olympic Gold medal

Latvia is the first-ever #3x3 Men's Olympic Gold Medalist at #Tokyo2020! We look back at the best Highlights of Karlis Lasmanis, Nauris Miezis, and Co. from the Olympic Qualifying tournament in Graz! Enjoy!

US men basketball will have strong competitor from Nigeria who beat them some weeks ago and of course European team like Serbia, France, and other....

But for women, USA team is still unbeatable for both 5x5 and 3x3 competition

Hei, how about Indonesian player, Ayu (22 years old)- number 9 , do you think she can play as guard in WNBA ? She can trick 2 WNBA player and also beat Plum in at least one occasion

As I have predicted, US women 3 on 3 is still unbeatable

transgender folks should be banned from Olympic until Olympic removes gender separation. Why men only compete with men and women compete with women? Why not everyone compete with everyone else?

We can only hope that black athletes from other countries spread out the athletics medals and prevent one country from dominating.

Maybe the Indians can pull off a miracle and win a gold in track and field.

Have you also noticed it's these transgender "women" who want to compete with women. It's never transgender "men" wanting to compete with men, as the athletic advantages men have are immense over women.
