Fast Fact that nobody has mentioned (I think..I could be wrong) . Thousands of people die of the flu every year in the US...but nobody is walking around with masks.

Staying indoor is a double edge sword... since you can't stay indoor indefinitely therefore If One is infected, propagation will be easier among close relatives.
Economically, it is not viable...
And Socially, it's a nightmare... that could end up be more "dangerous" than the virus itself... Panic will rise in the long term... that will challenge the central gov and the community like never before...

Indoor containment is viable when "You are sure" that the Threat will be erased very soon... Something that isn't the case today at least.

Stay at home is to gain time for the central govt. to take act to control the epidemic, to take down the infection rate in the very beginning.
All this has a premise -- the govt has the willing and ability to control the epidemic, otherwise, like US, just told people "JUST A FLU" "RESTART THE ECONOMY" and even after half a year still arguing whether wearing a mask or not, I see neither will nor ability.
