To Many Chinese, America Was Like ‘Heaven.’ Now They’re Not So Sure.

One is building, the other is bombing, to say the least.

I'm not talking in a literal sense, I'm referring to what drives the decision making. It might manifest differently between the two nation states but the Ego bound state of their respective leaders is nearly identical.

To be honest, many world leaders today have similar Ego structures, and by extension the group Egos that form around them are similar. Trump, Xi, Putin, Kim, Assad and many others - strip away their beliefs, their form and their illusions and what lies beneath is the same. The same need to control, the same self righteousness, the same need to judge and interpret (through the filter of their Ego), the same need for conflict and enemies (there needs to be a 'them' for there to be an 'us'), the same reactive and involuntary thought processes (how dare they call me crazy/orange man/winnie the pooh etc).......

As far as I know, China has never claimed to be a superpower, nor do they even seek to be one. China doesn't want to police the world, and station in foreign land over the planet. Chinese just want to develop their own country and have the best possible quality of life for all. If in process, they happen to be in the top GDP spot, so be it, they don't mean it. Hey, it's a country with 1.4 billion for god's sake.

I think what Chinese really want to see for their country, is one day their country will never have to be subject to what Trump has been doing to Huawei, a private company that has done nothing wrong.

Individuals are different in the West. China is a big family. Amerika is not, buy a gun because your neighbor might rob you. There is less trust in the West. Would you trust Amerika to defend you? There is your answer.

Wanting fair Beige skin is NOT the same as wanting white skin with its White Worship connotations.
What not to want a clear bright face vs dark dull and difficult to apply make up and cannot see in the dark except the teeth.
I admire silky smooth fair beige skin, but NOT pig like white skin.
It is OK to want fairer skin.
Fairer skin is also being seen as an affluent person not needing to work in the fields.
So NOT agreeing with your statement.

East Asians generally go to Western countries for their higher standards of living, affordable largesse after looting from their colonial days and the vast fertile land they plundered.

Most of the students except the elites go there primarily because they have problem getting entry to their choice of popular courses at home.
Thats what happened with my children who went on to easily achieve distinctions in Australia.
My niece, an exchange student in China, preferred to take her exams in Singapore instead of highly competitive China with their millions of smart people.

Some of their educational institutions no doubt benefited from their affluence and generous grants to be acknowleged leaders in the world and elites will want to enrol there with the benefit of being able to network with the world's future leaders.

See how China is winning against Trump as being reasonable in defending against a bully.

We can disregard their determined efforts to demonize China and refrain from engaging with them where appropriate.
