Yes I knew hehe
...but might as well explain for anyone reading here. Plus an excuse to tag Joe and see what he says
...I do like to annoy him now and then.
Yah most Tamils/southies I know tend to live more in Joisey...little further from NYC metro area....but even then they are not huge in number there or anything. Punjabi definitely are mostly represented....and tend to be spearhead of Indian culture in west etc.
Yah Punjab in India is about 50/50 split between Sikh and Hindu....Sikhs just obviously stand out a lot more generally. Gujaratis also are big in number (% wise to their state population in India) I have found all over US and UK....probably because India socialism (for large part of its history) drove away lot of those "business minded" Gujjus
Urdu I can understand quite well (I know Hindi pretty well). Punjabi sounds much more interesting language to me haha....it has a witty jocular charm to it.
Yah Bengali (and also Odia, Assamese and eastern stuff) tend to have lot of use of "o" sound in place of the a/aa sounds northie languages prefer....it stems somewhat I think from their Pali roots (and Pali is very different compared to other prakrits).
I have been told by many that us Tamils speak the fastest though of anyone
....it is because we have a very different spoken language (use lot of short cuts and word combining) to our written (which is much more formal and slow).
