ISLAMABAD: Spokesman of the religious outfit Tehrik-e-Nifaz-Shariate-Mohammadi (TNSM) Ameer Izzat and senior leader Muhammad Alam Khan were killed in clash with security forces, ISPR reported on Saturday.

The two leaders were travelling in a prisoner van, which was a part of the security convoy transporting them to prison.

According to the ISPR statement, militants attacked the convoy, which lead to a clash and resulted in the death of both leaders as well as one soldier.

‘The convoy was attacked by an improvised explosive device (IED) followed by firing by terrorists at 5:10 am at Sakhakot,’ the statement said.

It added that ‘a non-commissioned officer embraced shahadat (martyrdom) while five others were injured.’

Five soldiers were also injured in the clash.

The military convoy was attacked near Sakhakot town in Malakand, the army said.

The militants ambushed the convoy of security forces carrying prisoners from Malakand town to Peshawar in the northwest of the country.

The dead aides were arrested on Thursday along with three Afghan nationals.

The deal in February to put three million people under sharia law in exchange for peace in the Swat valley fell apart when Taliban fighters advanced to within 100 kilometres of Islamabad in April.

How interesting is that -- and we have amongst us, some who deny that TNSM and it's boss the murderously evil, Sufi Mohammad are at war with the Pakistani state.

To the supporters of radical islamist terrorists here who engage in information operations, we remind that it is unforgivable that you engage in support of and apology for, those who engage Pakistani State by taking arms up against the state and who promote insurrection and rebellion may some day find that they will be held accountable and those who provided them the venue may also find that they will have to answer difficult questions.

RAWALPINDI: The Taliban attacked a security forces’ convoy on Saturday, killing Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) naib amir Maulana Alam and spokesman Amir Izaat while they were being transported to Peshawar.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Athar Abbas told reporters in Rawalpindi the Taliban attacked the convoy after it hit an improvised explosive device (IED). He said one non-commissioned officer was also martyred in the attack, and five others were injured. He said the convoy was carrying prisoners needed for a “special investigation” by intelligence agencies. To questions, he said TNSM chief Sufi Muhammad was not in custody, but confirmed that TNSM leader Maulana Wahab was currently being interrogated by security forces.

During a separate press conference in Peshawar, NWFP Information Minister Iftikhar Hussain blamed the Taliban for killing the two TNSM leaders. “There were differences between the TNSM and the Taliban. We are 90 percent certain the terrorists attacked the convoy to kill the two men,” he said. “We were told by the TNSM leaders during negotiations that the Taliban were threatening them. So, there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind about who carried out (Saturday’s) attack,” he added. To questions, he said there was some confusion over the number of IDPs, because several families had registered themselves at different points.

17 in 24: The ISPR DG, meanwhile, said security forces had cleared Barabonde, and had established checkposts at Kuzabonde, and Goraghat. He said 17 Taliban had been killed in Qambar tehsil during the past 24 hours, adding one soldier had been martyred in the process. He said the Taliban had fired rockets on a security forces’ checkpost in Khawazakhela, resulting in two soldiers being martyred and one being injured.

He said according to estimates, three to four percent of the terrorists killed or apprehended by security forces are foreigners, including Arabs, Central Asians or Afghans. He said security forces had successfully secured several areas, adding they would continue to remain in the valley until the civil administration had been restored. However, he added, no time frame could be given for the completion of the operation, or the restoration of peace in the area.

Abbas said the military operation was a temporary arrangement to bring normalcy to the area, adding the civil administration and law enforcement agencies were required for permanent stability.

Also on Saturday, Awami National Party spokesman Zahid Khan condemned the deaths of the TNSM leaders, terming it a conspiracy against the government.

They should have used helicopter for their extraction to secure location, instead they used vehicles just begging to be ambushed imho, these guys could provide valuable info regarding foreign elements, another blunder i guess

PA is not stupid, they must have acquired the info they were looking for and then they decided their fate, the convoy was ambushed by talibans and both of them were killed wether by hook or crook. Time will tell. My two cents.

A little surprised the number is so low, perhaps it was what was referred to in the intercepted communication “our guests are leaving"
The foreign jihadists are very good at fighting girls and barbers but decide to be some where else now they are facing the Pakistan military.

The second tier TNSM leadership would have little to offer in terms of intelligence on the Taliban.

The Taliban commanders that have been captured or have surrendered would be far more valuable sources of information IMO.
