Tiktok banned in Pakistan - PTA gone crazy

The government should just ban internet in Pakistan along with all channels. Leaving behind just PTV. That way the people will only see and hear what the government wants them to. drag the country back into Stone Age. Someone needs to tell the establishment and this government that you can’t control the public forcibly in this great Information Age. It’s only going create more resentment amongst the public. They are applying an outdated formula of 80s and 90s in 2020. It just won’t work, rather it will create more negative externalities, as we all are witnessing today. It’s dividing our nation.

They will use the same bullshit excuse to ban other major social media platforms and spy on us. They have no respect for our data considering how much of it is on sale for 2rs on the internet. The **** is PTI doing?
Yes just like they banned porrn sites but they are easily accessible using different softwares. Practically this ban is going to make a zero difference.

Extremely stupid decision.

You cannot hide from the world or hide the world from yourself.

People will find one way or another to see so called 'immoral content'.

The key is teaching and educating people, especially children, how to deal with such content.

Although I think it is a stupid decision,

this is slap in the face of those who think Pakistan is under China's influence, Pakistan will do what it believes is the right step for itself. Whether it is right or wrong comes after.

isn't that anti-China?
less competitors is good news for YouTube and ABC (google) and the CEO's of Indian and Eastern European ancestry that own them.
Strange choice by supposedly pro-China, Pakistan.

I get why they did this but atleast it was keeping youth busy.
oh well, i shudder at the thought of twitter getting banned

The only thing this government is good at is moral policing. Why is state so hell bent on deciding what's moral and immoral.

That's not how geo-politics in the pursuit of national interests works, and your comment points to a flawed understanding of Pakistan overall.

Pakistan is allied with China and pro-China because of Chinese support for Pakistan and Pakistan's national interests. That does not mean that Pakistan will not take a position that does not align with China where Pakistan believes her national interests are not served.

Similarly, Pakistan's relationship with the US continues to be lukewarm because the US has never really bothered to change the relationship into a long term strategic relationship from a tactical one, but Pakistan is not going to willingly change the US-Pak relationship into something similar to the US-Iran or US-North Korea relationship because there are still some areas in which Pakistan at least feels certain national interests are served, and that is why the US also continues to engage with Pakistan instead of following the Iran or North Korea route.

Indonesia gov also banned tiktok for some time in the past but look like it has been lifted in which I think it is because Tiktok pay the tax .
Actually, every week, people were getting killed trying to make some stupid video. Fallen off a bridge, ran over by train/car, even stupid thing as drinking Clorox.

I think most users of TikTok and Instagram are women. Even before TikTok many internet users in India, especially women, used to take stupid risks for still image selfies. There was one case of three young women who were posing for a selfie on the seaside rocks in Bombay's Marine Drive and one of them was washed away into the sea. Stupidity :
A teenager and her two friends fell off rocks into the Arabian Sea near Bandra Bandstand in the north of the city while clicking selfies on Saturday.

A passerby, 37-year-old Ramesh Walanju, jumped in and helped save the two friends, but was washed away by the choppy waters and his body was found floating in a nearby creek on Monday. The girl is still missing.

Unfortunately the title donkey king is getting more and more fitting.
Watching too much Geo bro..

On topic, the decision of banning TikTok is temporary. PTA had given time to devise a mechanism which was not met but they are open to engage and reverse if mechanism to remove un-lawful/in-appropriate content is established by tiktok..

So it is more of an enemy of my enemy is my friend for now, situation.
There is no shared vision of the future and thus each just takes what they can from the other.
That is the NORM for both countries and people.
