What's new

Tianhe-2 will soon switch to the domestic processors

Still, we will have two exascale monsters by the summer of next year.

No you won't.

The first exascale supercomputer is set to feature only in late 2020 or early 2021 as of predictions now.

China will have 3 exa scale prototypes within 24 months.

But these are prototypes. Meaning they are set to test the technology etc. They will themselves not be capable of exa scale computing.

That's my understanding as well. That those prototypes are pre-exascale systems. The US is releasing the Summit and Sierra preexascale computers early next year, with Aurora expected to be the first U.S. exascale system in 2021.

China is planning to push ShenWei E in June 2018.

E stands for exaflops.

China has already confirmed ShenWei E will be completed by June 2018 which is likely ahead of Tianhe-3.

Existence of the chip doesn't mean existence of the computer.

Again if you want I can in detail give you the slides which Chinese experts presented both in SC 2017 as well as ICHPC 2017.

Also one can really have a prototype with technology that exists. So the chip has to exist for the prototype.

ShenWei E is currently not known by the non-Chinese media.

And it is the successor of the current champion of the top 500 Taihulight, so expect it is using some kind of improved SW processors.
