3 US soldiers among nine killed in Lower Dir blast

LOWER DIR Feb 3 (APP): At least nine persons including three US soldiers and four girls wee killed and 65 others injured, most of whom girl students when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off during inauguration of the newly-constructed girls school at Hajiabad here on Wednesday, DPO Mumtaz Zarin said. He told reporters here that one FC soldier and three US marines who were attached with FC as trainers were killed in the blast that occurred at 1050 am. The dead were indentified as Hira, Fatima, Sana and Naek FC Fazal Mula.

The structures of newly constructed High and Primary sections of the Girls School Koto Haji Abad in Tehsil Balambat were damaged. Police said that IED was dumped on the roadside and its target was believed to be security forces convey. One portion of the school building was razed to ground and majority of the students were later rescued by locals.

The DCO Ghulam Muhammad told APP that the students were not in their class rooms as they were under open sky. “Since the students were taking classes under open sky due to inauguration ceremony and cold weather, the casualty figure is less,” he added.

Meanwhile, the hospital sources informed that they had received 65 injured of whom condition of four girls is stated to be critical. The injured included 41 girl students and five security officials.

NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has strongly condemned the explosion and expressed his deep shock and sorrow over the loss of precious lives. He described the incident as a highly cowardly act of terrorism.

In a condolence message, the Governor said, the elements involved in cowardly acts of terrorism, are already on the run and targeting innocent citizens in frustration. Such miscreants, he added, are the enemies of the country.

The incident of targeting innocent people and public institutions itself speaks the barbaric and retrogressive mindsets of such elements and expose their nefarious designs, in which they would never succeed.
Expressing his heartfelt sympathies with members of the bereaved families, the Governor expressed the confidence that the elements involved in such heinous crimes would be brought to justice.

He has also asked the people to continue their fullest cooperation with the law enforcement agencies and ensure lasting peace in the area.

The Governor also prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls, courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss with patience.

Pakistan condemns killing of US nationals, locals in Lower Dir blast

ISLAMABAD, Feb 3 (APP): Pakistan on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Lower Dir which killed both Pakistani and the US nationals besides injuring several others.

“We mourn the loss of innocent lives and convey our sincere sympathy and condolences to the members of the bereaved families,” Foreign Office spokesman said in a statement issued here.

The spokesman said such inhuman acts of terror only serve to fortify Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism.

Kaira, Sumsam condemn Lower Dir blast

ISLAMABAD, Feb 3 (APP): Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira and State Minister for Information & Broadcasting Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari have strongly condemned the blast in Lower Dir which resulted in the loss of precious lives.

In their separate statements, both the ministers expressed profound condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of those who sustained injuries in the blast.

Lighten up. The articles made clear that these guys dress locally and weren't in uniform. Your convoy. I'm certain nobody was flying American flags This wasn't a hit on yanks. It was a hit on your state's effort to reconstruct a school. The attack was timed for their arrival at the school. How else explains so many civilians.

i think they were USAID personnel

If they were there to help train the frontier corps. Then I am 99.9% sure they were green berets. Training other forces is the primary mission of the Special forces with combat operations secondary. Though both intertwine a lot of the time. before they were under the Special Operations Command. They were under the U.S. Army Institute for Military Assistance. Which had a long history of training Pakistani troops.

yesterday i was a writing a article about how , Taliban mentality has gone above repair and the only solution left is to finish them of the face of the world just like a tumor which can not be cured ,........how badly did i knew that today my article will be proved in so inhumanly.
and for those ignorant retards who think this was the work of some unknown forces or even on American forces need to get there facts right , it was a attack on a Girl school convoy carrying girls from age of 5 to 11 ..!! no one knew that American soldiers will come along , they just came along to see what is happening with the money paid by there Government , it was never planned for them to come along in the first place , so the attack was totally based on Killing of innocent girls who one day would have became educated mothers giving birth to souls who would have had more brain and knowledge then these sand monkeys !
And at this time we should also consider that these were not just normal soldiers there were US elite , these highly valuable assets of US were given to us on our request , and look how amazingly we treated them , hail to the Great hospitable nation that once presided this country .

Let there be no doubt that the American soldiers who died, died for Pakistan and its cause - they died for Pakistan's war against terrorists and barbarians.

Those of you who have nitpicked over issues such as 'why were they there, why were they traveling' etc. need to step back a moment and realize that these American soldiers were in Pakistan at the invitation of the Pakistani government, training Pakistani soldiers, so that Pakistan may better combat terrorists and save future generations from the medieval barbarity of the Taliban.

First and foremost these American soldiers deserve the same respect and gratitude that many Pakistanis have for Pakistani soldiers martyred in our war against terrorists.

We can nitpick over what went wrong and what could have been done differently later.

If you read the reports about the incident, all of them are pretty clear that the convoy was attacked at a different school than the one that was being inaugurated.

The reports differ on whether it was an IED or a suicide bomber, but they are unanimous about the fact that the attack took place along the route to the school, and not at the school being inaugurated.
