Still they need to give bit better well protected vehicles don't you think? we all know about the quality of this paper car we shouldn't forget that we're still at war with terrorists.
I have pointed out in the other thread (17 indians killed) also that security measures should be in place and the commander is responsible for the security and well being of the troops under his command.
In this case:
1. The militants attacked the most easiest target available to them. Messes have security at its gates and perimeters but not a security convoy for mess vehicle going out of mess to maybe, but grocery, chicken, meat etc.
2. Army vehicles have number plate with BROAD ARROW with year of registration or induction next to it.
ARROW -94-2824.
The administrative vehicles may or may not have such number plate for security reasons. Interestingly the 2nd vehicle in this photo is showing just 3 digits., rest is painted to camouflage.
I think this white Suzuki Bolan shows an islamabad number plate with civil number.
3. My guess is that these 3 personnel could be: a driver, a second seater (maybe with gun) and the 3rd could be mess administration staff.
4. Its a targeted attack. The militants have watched the routine of this vehicle going out at a certain time to a certain place every day or every week and had planned accordingly.
5. 90% of Pakistan army vehicles (staff cars/military pick ups/military trucks/administration vehicles etc) are not bullet proof. Only high ranking officers transports, probably their escorts also and wheeled MRAPS are safe.
6. An additional security vehicle in white colour with civilian number plate and 4 personnel with guns could maybe have thwarted an attempt of attack.
7. The commander of this outfit or mess OC should have been clever enough to take different measures to ensure safety of his troops.
However, it can also be that these 3 personnel were maybe travelling in their own private vehicle. Just thinking of all possible options. Another possible option could be that these are ISI/Intelligence agency personnel but media is being told that they are Mess staff.
ISI uses civilian vehicles like land cruiser, hilux, corolla, suzuki carry etc with civilian number plates. The number plates and colour of vehicles can change everyday. Re-painting and spraying is an ordinary task, everyday or every week..
