SRINAGAR, Dec 26: The witnesses into the fratricidal shootout in a para-military CRPF camp in south Kashmir's Kulgam district which took place Sunday night have identified the trooper involved in the killings. Three CRPF men were killed and one critically injured in the incident.
Following the shoot out police arrested 6 suspected CRPF men who were present in the barrack at the time of the incident and set the investigations into motion to ascertain who actually was involved in the fratricide.
Sources said that the five CRPF men, who are witnesses of the incident during the course of interrogation identified their colleague, S K Roy (HD) who was also in the police custody as accused in the shoot out.
“After being identified by his colleagues the accused on being interrogated confessed to his crime,” said a police official.
SP Kulgam, Maqsood-ul-Zaman, said, “The five witnesses who were present in the barrack at the time of the incident revealed that they were in deep sleep when the accused resorted to shoot out.”
“Every one in the barrack including the victims was sleeping when the accused got up and took the extreme step. We were taken by surprise on hearing the sudden gun shots," SP quoted the witnesses as revealing.
However, on being asked why the accused took such an extreme step, SP said, “The accused had three hours before the incident entered into heated argument with the victims over some issue. So he may have taken this step to give vent to his anger.”
SP said that all the CRPF men arrested after the incident for questioning on grounds of suspicion are still under the police custody. “Though they have identified the accused but the investigations into the case have not been completed yet. Once the investigations are over they will be released,” SP added.
