NEW DELHI: The three Chinese nationals intercepted by Indian border forces in June while infiltrating into Ladakh sector of Jammu and Kashmir are set to be charged with illegally entering the country.

However, it is not clear if they will also face charges of espionage, as there is no clear evidence that the three - seemingly from a poverty-stricken background - had crossed over to study Indian defence posts and patrolling routes in the higher reaches of Ladakh, or for onward journey to ****************** Kashmir.

"We will follow the due legal process. They have entered the country without any valid papers, and must face charges under the Passport Act and Foreigners Act. Only after they trial is over and they have served the sentence here can they be sent back to China," a senior government official said.

The Into-Tibetan Border Police ( ITBP), in whose custody the trio — Salamo, Abdul Khaliq and Adil Thorsong — have been since their detention near Sultanchku on June 12, will now move them from the Margo post in north Ladakh to Leh for trial. This may take three to four days, according to government sources.

Various security agencies which have questioned the Chinese nationals separately allege that their statements are contradictory. The trio reportedly claimed that they had come to India to escape extreme poverty they faced at home in Kargalilik, Xinjiang, and that they were influenced by Bollywood stars like Shahrukh Khan.

Incidentally, the trio was carrying 900 yuan, political maps which appeared torn from local school books and leather jackets they claimed were discarded by Chinese troops and picked by them along the way.

 Times of India.

Tsk tsk tsk....

India should have arrested the 30 Chinese troops that supposedly entered India back in April. But because India could not, it just pick on a few poor villagers as the replacement.
