Three cheers for Hina, one for the budget

It was a glorious day for women in politics. The budget was presented by a lady minister for the first time, with the first women speaker of Pakistan lording over the session.
But all said and done it wasnt a day without ironies. At one point during her budget speech, the minister of State for Finance Hina Rabbani Khar took a dramatic pause, looked up at the speaker and blasted the previous government for its absolute failure in ensuring that the man on the street also tasted the benefits of the so called economic boom of the Shaukat-Musharraf era.
Now if the collective memory of the nation serves us right then wasnt Ms Khar herself a key member of that derided economic team as well? Werent there many occasions then on which she had praised the economic acumen of the finance minister turned prime minister Mr. Shaukat Aziz? Had she not defended the economic brilliance of the Shaukat-Mushrraf era? But, today all that seemed like eons ago.
Another time zone, another life time. And that wasnt all, she even went on to praise and own up Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as her leaders. Heres to you Madame minister for presenting the budget, and reinventing your politics..
