Well we may not buy the MBT itself but we MIGHT buy the smoothbore gun/elements of it for arjun mk 3(FMBT).FMBT is probabaly going to have access to israeli armour rounds.And possibly the APS too.Just like turkey and korea bought the rheinmetall gun for altay and black panther.Just a thought,ideally we will have our own gun.

In terms of firepower and mobility very similar.
In terms of protection Leopard has better frontal protection while Merkava better all around.

Also currently Mk4 is the only tank with active protection system.
