they say some 4 crore (40 million) or something odd janam/life lene padtey hain as all types of creatures before you get to be a human.. we've all already been cockroaches and fish and dogs and so on before finally being born a human, which is the only creature than can realize itself (actualization, as in Maslow's hierarchy of needs, or, as how Jung described the process of individuation)

who knows ?
according to my understanding Hindus believe that your rebirth depends on the karma that you have built up in your life.
Karma is like life ‘points’. If you do good actions in life you build up good karma. If you do bad acts in life you build up bad karma, are thus reborn as something subhuman like cockroaches, shudras, achhoots and other lowly beings.

meaning that you do not start out as a grasshopper or cockroach. human first then demoted/promoted according to your deeds

read the attachment, sarky pandit! would you like me to post more i.e chapters and verses from reputable books that are acceptable to both hindu and non-hindu alike (sane ones that is).

Violating the rules of caste will affect a person’s reincarnation. if low castes rebel against the high-borns, their karma will be affected for the worse!
