Thousands protest Indian PM Modi’s upcoming visit in Bangladesh

Thousands protested against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit in Bangladesh's capital of Dhaka on Friday.

Protesters gathered around the national mosque after Friday prayers and then proceeded to march through the city's streets, chanting slogans and beating effigies of Modi with their shoes. Protesters attempted to march to the Indian High Commission but were stopped by riot police.

Local media estimated that around 5,000 people participated in the march.

Modi is scheduled to visit Dhaka on March 17, but recent communal violence against Muslims in neighboring India has sparked calls for the visit to be canceled.

Last week, at least 44 people were killed and hundreds injured in the worst communal riots in the Indian capital in decades, triggered by clashes between supporters of a new citizenship law and those against it.

Indeed, they can only shame Modi if he feels. Once being so thick skin; doesn't matter whether opposition or in power. Those are merely lame excuses to save bit of grace or whatever left. An opposition or not; protests does speaks that no one is going to favour Modi a free walk.

See after CAA and NRC, those who will be deemed illegal immigrants will be put on isolation. If they will be pushed back, the BD will not take them and it will strain relation. So they will be just put in a camp with only food and med care. Now after some days if they are really illegal and without any work, they will be homesick.

Then they will reveal their real address and intention to go home through their high commission here. The high commission will verify and take them back.
