50 Afghans found dead in truck container
QUETTA, April 4 Police found on Saturday 50 bodies and 60 unconscious Afghans crammed and locked inside a truck container in Hazar Ganji on the outskirts of Quetta.
All the victims, who were of Uzbek, Tajik and Hazara origin, were trying to illegally enter Iran to go to Europe via Turkey, but died during the journey because of suffocation.
Wazir Khan Nasar, the Deputy Inspector General Police, told Dawn that according to initial information, the truck container was coming from Spin Boldak, a town in Afghanistan, and used unfrequented routes in Balochistan to cross into Iran.
He said that agents, after having failed in repeated attempts to cross into Iran, brought the vehicle to the outskirts of Quetta.
“The driver of the truck container parked the vehicle inside the Hazar Ganji Truck Adda on Saturday evening and escaped in car after seeing bodies and unconscious Afghans.”Rohullah, a witness, told Dawn by telephone that as the driver escaped, shopkeepers and truck drivers gathered and informed the police, who opened the container and found 50 bodies and 60 unconscious Afghans.
Talking to Dawn, one of the victims, Mulook Khan, said “we wanted to go to Europe to escape joblessness and extreme poverty in many parts of Afghanistan”.
Another victim, who could not tell his name, told Dawn “we had to travel on foot for several kilometers before boarding the container mounted on a truck”.
He said the container had no hole for air ventilation and he soon fell unconscious because of suffocation and heat.
Agencies add Survivor Nizar Ahmed, 15, told AFP from hospital that he came from the province of Baktia in eastern Afghanistan.
“We have all come from Afghanistan and we were going to Iran,” he said, without being able to explain why they were bound for the Islamic republic, or when they left home.
Local inhabitants and police realized there were people inside when they heard sounds coming from within the container, police said.
Television footage shot shortly after the white container was opened showed dozens of bodies, many of them stripped to the waist, lined up on the road next to the truck.
Also "Thousands" ... lmao.
Interesting theory about them mainly being Afghans, so i did a search on the topic and it seems that most of the illegals trying to get to Greece and the EU from South Asian countries are not Afghans but are natives that mostly come from the Punjab region of Pakistan and India according to these Pakistani and Indian reports.
Another 32 Pakistanis deported from Greece
December 06, 2013

LAHORE - Another plane transported 32 Pakistanis from Athens to Lahore who had crossed into Greece illegally on fake travel documents in the past, said FIA sources on Thursday.
They said that the deportees were arrested by the immigration authorities of Greece when former made their entrance illegally there. A special plane carrying more than 30 Pakistani deportees from Greece landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIAP) Lahore on November 14.
A 60-member squad of Greek intelligence officers handed over the deportees to FIA Immigration Additional Director Basharat Shehzad and other officers at the Lahore airport.
Then 44 deportees were transported by a scheduled flight on November 20.
In the latest consignment of deportees, Assistant Director Immigration Ali Imam Zaidi said all the deportees were released from the airport against personal sureties and not a single deportee was sent to Anti-Human Trafficking Cell for action. He said travel documents of only two deportees were found genuine.
All the deportees were interviewed at the AIIAP and released, adding 95 percent of them belonged to upper Punjab. Human trafficking was on rise in the country, especially in upper Punjab districts of Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Lala Musa, Kharian and Jhelum. Sources said human trafficking was being patronised by influential as well as by parliamentarians due to which action against them could never be taken properly. Only cosmetic measures were being taken to curb human smuggling due to which the real accused were still at large, they added.
The economy of Greece is already in a shambles due to which Pakistanis visiting Greece for better future got arrested after they failed to get better jobs on account of their illegal status.
FIA officer said that all deportees were sent back to Pakistan under International Organization for Migrants (IOM). He said that IOM management not only provide air tickets to these deportees but also extends financial help of 200 to 300 Euros per head. This help was to rehabilitate them in their respective country.
He said all of them arrived in Greece by using illegal means of travel like ‘Dunkey Style’a term generally used in FIA for such travelers.
FIA officer quoted a deportee as saying, “There are good numbers of Pakistanis detained in Greece jails but Pakistan foreign office there pays no heed toward this crucial issue.”
The majority of the deportees coming from Athens were of 22 to 30. They had paid a huge sum of money to human traffickers, besides putting their lives at risk to enter Greece. As per reports, every deportee pays around Rs 0.5 million to Rs 0.7 million to human smugglers for his illegal entry in Greece.
An FIA officer said human traffickers used illegal route of Iran via Balochistan, and then from Iran to Turkey and from Turkey to Greece. Sometimes these deportees are kidnapped by their own Pakistani people after reaching Greece.
Punjabi girls entering Greece illegally
JALANDHAR: It's not just the UK government that is worried sick about human trafficking from Punjab. A disturbing trend of human trafficking of young girls from Punjab to Greece via Georgia and Turkey has now come to light with managing committees of 10 gurdwaras in Greece having written to Lok Bhalai Party about it. The letter mentioned that several young girls were landing in undignified situations in Greece, sullying the name of Punjab.
In a letter to LBP chief Balwant Singh Ramoowalia on November 4, they have written that while earlier only young men were trying to sneak into Greece from Turkey, now girls were also coming illegally.
They have asked Ramoowalia to approach the state government to check this trend of human trafficking of girls to Greece and appealed to the people that if daughters of some families were in Georgia, they should call them back to save them from trouble. The letter has also explained that there were no employment avenues for newcomers and gurdwaras there could not give them shelter as per law in Greece.
The letter has alleged that Gurnam Singh alias Baba was sending the girls through this route.
Ramoowalia, while providing copies of the letter, said principal political parties were ignoring issues which concerned the life, death and dignity of people, especially the daughters of Punjab.
Meanwhile, Daljit Kaur, a resident of Binjo village in Hoshiarpur district, in the presence of LBP leaders, alleged that her 36-year-old brother Harjinder Singh, who was to be taken to Delhi by a travel agent for his trip to Greece, was killed somewhere in Malerkotla. She alleged conspiracy by a travel agent of her village who had taken her brother's two kanal land by registering it in his name.
