Like Brotherhood said, Hong Kongers love to go on demonstrations about everything. The Article 23 demonstrations for example, brought in almost a million people, out of a 7 million total population.

Where did you see the his "hatred of Chinese people"?

As difficult as it may be for you to believe, Indians don't hate Chinese. Most of the animosity here is also so unreal (at least I can claim that for myself and most Indians). Most people just go with what has become the norm here and is on autopilot.

I suspect the same is true at least for some Chinese though some are beyond redemption.

Chinese authorities also know that things would be better off if the incident didn't happen. They might've been simply trying to put down riots and keep peace, but they responded too forcefully, at least in the eyes of Western media.

That's why they block everything related to it; they don't want the dark chapter of history to be brought up again and again. It hurts the people as well as them.
