NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday slammed the Narendra Modi-led NDA government even as he admitted that his party had made mistakes.
"Those who have launched 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' are spreading poison in society," Rahul Gandhi said at the ceremony to mark the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
"This is the only country which won its war of independence with love. Today India is ruled by people who are angry," Rahul said
Hitting out at govt's clean India campaign, Rahul said, "Today people have got photo opportunities, they are cleaning streets, less work done by govt."
Rahul admitted that the party had made some mistakes but said that the Congress has never swayed from its ideology.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi also led the charge against Modi government and said, "An attempt is being made to finish the ideology of Jawaharlal Nehru who believed in carrying all sections together."
"We should remain committed to fight those who want to destroy the liberal and progressive edifice of India," she said.
The BJP reacted strongly to Rahul's charge.
"Rahul Gandhi's entire political career has been full of photo-ops, travelling in local train, visitng dalit's house, tearing ordinance," BJP leader Nalin Kohli said.
