Their enormous estimate was ultimately based on interviews with exactly eight Uyghur individuals.

Sources say that China is considering suing Adrian Zenz and the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) that have long published and disseminated disinformation about China for libel.

Who is Adrian Zenz? And what kind of think tank is ASPI?

Adrian Zenz, a German far-right fundamentalist Christian who believes he is "led by God" on a "mission" against China, is now a member of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, a far-right organization established by the US government in 1993, and a senior fellow in a research group set up by the US intelligence community on the vocational education and training centers in Xinjiang.

In 2018, Adrian Zenz was still a faculty member of the European School of Culture and Theology at Columbia International University, Korntal.

As the US steps up its disinformation campaign against China, Adrian Zenz has transformed almost overnight from an unknown researcher into a go-to pundit on Xinjiang. In recent years, he has churned out several sensational "reports" on Xinjiang, in which he spread the rumor that over one million Uyghurs were detained there. As revealed by The Grayzone, an independent news website in the US, Adrian Zenz jumped to the groundless estimate according to a single report by Istiqlal TV, a Uighur exile media organization based in Turkey that works for the separatist cause while playing host to an assortment of extremist figures.

Another high-profile anti-China think tank is the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI). ASPI is funded by Australian Department of Defense, military contractors and foreign governments including NATO, the US State Department and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Since Peter Jennings became ASPI's executive director in 2012, the think tank has gradually become the vanguard of slandering campaign against China, spreading the "China threat theory" wantonly, and producing a large number of untrue "reports" on Xinjiang and other issues. Geoff Raby, former Australian ambassador to China, said that he sees ASPI as "very much the architect of the China threat theory in Australia". Bob Carr, former Australian foreign minister and New South Wales premier, has accused ASPI of pumping out a "one-sided, pro-American view of the world". The Australian Financial Reviewpointed out that the ASPI foments anti-China hysteria to the benefit of its benefactors.

In recent years, Adrian Zenz and the ASPI have frequently published so-called "studies" and "reports" on such issues as Xinjiang and COVID-19, making unfounded accusations of China. They colluded with certain media outlets and anti-China politicians to form a chain of disinformation. Though pretending to be an independent scholar or think tank, they deliberately fabricate China-related lies and have in fact become the puppets of anti-China forces in the US and Australia and tools of political manipulation. The fact that China is considering suing such kind of researchers and think tanks as Adrian Zenz and the ASPI that have been slandering China for so long is truly an act of justice, analysts said.

People who uses the term "Nato-Nations" should be taken with a grain of salt.

Also if you disagree with the numbers shouldn't you guys let the UN observers into the region to make it clear how many are actually interned?
China can make similar claims about US and demands going to US to investigate, do you think US will allow?

. . . . . . .
Which UN? UN can't pass any bills without China's approval and most countries in UN are on China's side, including all Muslim countries.
Not the point. Also citation needed & no Pakistan ain't the whole ummah.

The point is that china are oppressing the uighur. Not how many they are.

.
Oh by fake you mean Americans or whoever is anti CCP are creating sets and filming like they do in Hollywood? Looks like lot of work

How do you know they are Uighurs? Check out the bystanders and builds in the video, non suggests it's Uighur region.

This was in 2009 after rioters killed hundreds of civilians, check the context in the history first, no country will stay idle after so many civilians killed in just one day. There are many documentaries about this on youtube, you can go and check them out.

Not the point. Also citation needed & no Pakistan ain't the whole ummah.

What is oppressiong? to allow them to be exempted from one child policy? to give them 15 years free education with free school meals and accommodation? to give them universal healthcare coverage? to give them free government houses?

Most police officers and soldiers in Xinjiang are Uighurs themselve, they are heavily armed with all kinds of weapons, If China persecuted them, why not even one Uighur officer or solider fights back and turn their weapons against the government??

.
It's more along the line of forced incarceration, cultural genocide, regular genocide & live organ harvesting.

What you said it's good why can't the uighur just have that.
Genocide? Tell me one person, just one name, who died from this "genocide", just one name is enough, you don't see a genocide which has zero death.

.
Just like how they keep inflating how many died as a result of Mao's failed policies during the Great Leap Forward. When I was a teenager, it was 20 million. When I was in university, it increased to 30 million. When I started working, it ballooned to 50 million. Now I'm hearing 80 million and that Mao murdered them by design.

Look, I don't like Mao and I don't like CCP in general. When you resort to using exaggerations and fabrications to highlight your cause, you're no longer reaching for the truth but rather spreading your own propaganda. It's the same shit with this Uyghur "concentration camp" narrative.

Let's not bullshit ourselves or beat around the bush. These aren't institutions Uyghurs would normally volunteer for. They're either forced or pressured to go. The education they receive inside is a mixture of CCP propaganda and actual language/job skills. This is just another reiteration of China's former reform through labor program (劳改). The facilities are neither truly concentration camps or vocational schools, but somewhere in between.

Am I bothered by it? Slightly, because of the arbitrary nature of these "schools" and potential for abuses. Do I think it is a necessary evil? Absolutely. Xinjiang was rocked by weekly jihadist violence before 2015 and the introduction of these institutions. Hundreds were killed on a yearly basis. It was the most dangerous region in China, and Uyghurs had a bad reputation as criminals and thieves. No employer outside of Xinjiang would hire them, as they lack language and job skills for China's competitive labor market.

Fast forward to now, Xinjiang is the safest region in China. There hasn't been a single separatist attack in 5 years across the entirety of China. Uyghurs are starting to integrate into the mainstream Chinese society thanks to mandarin education. Yes, it's a bitter pill to swallow, but it treated the disease.

We're living in a violent and unforgiving world, and there is no unicorn solution.
