What's new

this man who cleans, eats and sleeps in a public toilet in India for £70 a month

He is a brave man who has not given up in a situation where most would have. He is braving these conditions for what? to feed his kids, and to educate them, so they would have a future better than their father. Should this person be ridiculed or honored?

Those who do not abandon the path of honesty in financial crisis time are our Heros. We must respect and reward them (We means India and Pakistan).

The reward is the Respect we can offer them. Speak up for them.

Yes, TO offer them respect as well Money also. Just to make them feel that we care for them. Their services are not gone unnoticed.

There is a minimum wage in India which everybody need to be paid by Law.

What he earns is only half the story, His liabilities is the other half. That is the part you DO NOT SEE.

Learn to see what is real, not only what you WANT to see.

I live in same India as you do. there are millions of Indians who doesn`t even earn half , of what he is earning , do you suggest all of them to leave their villages and occupy public places like him. What is preventing other low paid workers not to make public places their permanent abode. what will our cities become then , it is already in such bad shape.

His liabilities are his issues , we didn`t create it , he has to deal with it himself in his own personal space and time.Is there any one who deosnot have liabilities? There are people who will work double shifts to earn that extra rupee , and there is him who will instead occupy a public toilet to spend rest of his off duty time.

His liabilities are also OUR issue, unless you want to create more Naxals and Maoists and Terrorists.

IF you do not want him to occupy a public place, then better make arrangements for him to stay in a Non Public place. Create shelters for migrant workers. Create Infrastructure to support their venture.

Whining and blaming them is not the solution. That is just a feel good mechanism for the privileged.

.
wait , you are mixing up two different issues here. Naxal and farmer suicides etc are completely different from what this person , an employee of delhi govt. is doing.
This person earns a salary of 5000rs per month (plus other benefits presumably). He wants to maximize his savings and hence he decided to stay permanently in public toilet where he works. You argue that he has liabilities , what I see is indiscipline and complete disregard for public spaces and property. He can afford a place to live yet he chose to stay like this .
Everyone has problem of some sort , would your reaction would be same if some delhi govt. clerk is caught accepting bribe because he has "liabilities". I hope you understand my POV.

IF he has utter disregard for public pace and property, he can also take up a knife and gun and break into your house, kill everyone and steal the money.

Hope you understand my POV. As long as he is WORKING for his daily bread, it is sensible to encourage that behaviour. The alternative is not pleasant. Be careful what you wish for.

People who has very little to lose is FAR MORE DANGEROUS than people like you who have much to loose.

I can not imagine myself in such a situation.
My respect!

alright , if you think people with low income have the right to black mail and threaten to harm others, for the liabilities that they've created for themselves , I`ve nothing to argue about . Why work hard for myself if i going to get sympathy and blessings from fellow citizen just for being poor. why even pay taxes? why not pitch a tent for myself in the middle of cricket stadium, because I m poor , why complain about trash , why complain about traffic and apathy of govt. workers about everything , why complain about corruption? why complain absence of doctors and nurses from govt hospital? i bet all of them `ve got some reasons, right??

You are still stuck arguing about "what is right" and "life should be Fair" like a child.

Let me make it simple for you.

1. Life is NOT Fair
2. There is only two ways to deal with extreme poverty and the poor, Buy guns to shoot them when they scale the wall, or build facilities for them so that they DO NOT scale the wall.

Choose wisely.

.
This makes me feel so grateful for what I have. I wish him good luck, hopefully he finds a little house to live in.

@zootinali

Choosing the Gun is the Western (American) way.

This is the Indian way,

1. I agree, but sensible and honorable people always find a way to fight their misery without causing trouble to other and the society .
2. Sorry ,5000/mnth is no way extreme poverty in India.
I would have agreed with you if he was a socially or physically disabled , with a real struggle of some sort to make a living,eg. like the naxalite tribals of central India . This person in his own admission decided to live so ,only because he need to save that extra money . Why not find an extra job?
